Mayaman2's Big Review of the 4750 - Page 28

BTW, mayaman this ongoing review is amazing.

I (along with my brother) placed an order with hypersonic for two decked-out AX7 systems. After I read through this thread I decided to cancel the order and go with Sager, but hypersonic matched the price so we kept the order.

I snagged the same system you have but with a 3700+ processor, 2GBs of memory, a dual layer dvd burner, an extra battery, power adapter and car adapter for $3k. Should be coming in next week.

It would depend on the game. Some games do support widescreen gaming, while others would only be stretched, and others still play. but with black bars on the sides.

ah ic, thanks for clearing things up.

lol, I thought that if I game was widescreen, the picture always had to be stretched

Alright its been about 5 months approaching 6 months. The 4750 is still holding out. The screen is covered in crap so I need to clean that eventually and the speakers are starting to rattle. I think I shouldn't have eaten food near the speaker, perhaps crumps fell in there. I highly recommend not using the laptop near an area with lots of dry foods in the house. Also the period key isn't working which leads me to believe that a crump is in the contact area. LUKE I NEED THAT TUTORIAL ON HOW TO REMOVE THE KEYBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I can't fix the speaker rattle eventually (using headphones in the meantime (usb microphone one btw) I may have to send it in for a repair.

About the food in and underneath the keyboard, have you tried compressed air?

No I haven't yet I will do it when I can remove the keyboard though. Oh yeah and my laptop runs half life 2 great at 1280x800 resolution. 50 fps on high!

This is the 56xx reveiw thread, halfway down it tells how to remove the keyboard. It is the same on all Sager models, except the 17" models have 3 tabs. Pardon for not responding to the PM i fill my PM box normally once a week... sometimes i forget one

So that will work? I will try it when I get back to school after the mini break.

Been fooling around with the computer mic settings. I can't seem to get the microphone to work? Does anybody have a working microphone? Do you need to be real close for it to detect sound? Any help will be appreciated, I would like to be able to use it for ventrillo.

Did you select the "boost" in the Volume Control?

is boost found in the sound effects manager or sounds and audio devices of control panel? I have mic boost selected in advanced controls for the microphone.
Well, I also tried to get it to work last week, and the best I could do was to crank up all the settings and it still only worked when I'm too close.
Another question maya, can you plug in a 5.1 directly to the laptop with the front jacks? I know that there was this jack setting in the older versions of the soundman but that didn't work. So it seems like we have 3 jacks but still can not get 5.1 output. Do I have to buy an audigy notebook just to make my zalman headphones work properly??

Have you tried configuring the speakers through the sound effect manager program?
That option to set the output for the jacks was avalaible in the earlier versions, and that doesn't work either. Can you get 5.1 output to an external speaker set from your laptop?

Yes I can.
in wow, can the 4750 run all the different resolutions and have it fill up the entire screen instead of just being a window surrounded by black bars, on the i9200 that i returned, i could only get it to run at two different resolutions without black bars, 1920x1200 and 1280x800

I think so. It runs 1650x1080 in WOW quite nicely. Its not the most graphics intensive game around, so it should be fine. Half Life 2 runs well too.
There is an option on my 4750, I think on the ATI Control Panel, to either stretch the display or to have the black bars around, so you can choose. I personally prefer the black bars. I think it's sometihng like "Square Pixels" or something. Check around on the control panel.

Mayaman, so in the AC97 config program (aka sound effects manager), does the surround work in the HRTF demo? If yes, did you play with any settings, because i simply can't get 5.1 output from these 3 jacks, although everything seems to be adjusted properly..
