Well said Mako. Just for reference, David made his post last month concerning this issue. It's not been all that long...yet.
I'd also like to clarify a phrase being thrown around here: "Bait and switch" refers to a loss leader (that $49 DVD player Best Buy has every now and then) that gets you into the store (but is usually gone by the time you get back to the pile of them...3 minutes after they opened!) but is only used as a tool to get you in while they do their best to jam another product down your throat that actually has some GP (Gross Profit) built into it. I think some are using it in a different sense in this thread.
But again, well said Mako...and yes, any and all info they could have would surely "quiet the mob"...but we should be a bit more self contained at this point. The fat lady isn't even warming up yet.
My guess? We're looking at a nice offering very soon from the guys in Miami. Whether it be the 9700 that works with older models or another architechture (6800/9800), I just have a feeling they're busting their humps to get something out to us...and quick!
Yet for those of us with the older model Motherboards and the ATi9600, we do have an upgrade...its called the 5700Go Nvidia and I think I'll be picking one up soon. It gets better benches, better game scores, excellent driver support, rock solid stability and probably has an off-column price for those of us feeling "left in the lurch". Heck, its an OpenGL card, shouldn't it be better for Doom3 than my 9600? Right-O!
