Security Lock

I'm about to order my Aopen 1557 from myaopen.com and was wondering if anyone has had any experience using a lock on it. I will be a student in the fall and wouldnt want anyone else to put their greasy fingers on my laptop!

Kensington doesn't list Aopen as a manufacturer on their site, so I was wondering what 1557 users used to lock it up!

I believe the 1557GL DOES offer a Kensington security lock hole

Edit: check this link out: http://solution.aopen.com.tw/products/nb/1557-G.htm - Kensington lock is stipulated under security.

The lock has a thing you insert in to that slot. It kinda looks like this...

|---|

The two | on the outside hold the lock in place, Then the --- thing in the middle rotates 90 degrees to hold it in place.

Most locks now a days are the same. Targus, Kensington, etc...they should all fit. Some fit differently, I would take your notebook in and ask if you can test the locks before you buy it. Some fit looser or tighter depending on the brand of lock or laptop. Some laptop cases have thicker plastic/metal where the lock slot is.

Anyone, properly equipped and motivated, can steal anything. What you are doing is deterring the idiots, who seem to be 99% of the thieves (or vice versa) anyhow.

I found a lock - I think it was a targus- in office max, for 12$. Worth it to me to deter the lazy thieves. Most wont bother if they have to go to more trouble than walking by and grabbing it.

For the price, cable locks are a good idea, but obvioulsy if you cable lock it to a tree in a public area, that thing will be gone. So be smart about it, and lock up. Easy.
