I posted a few weeks back about formating my hd to get rid of a virus and not being able to reload an os. Well, it turned out to be a bad hd in the first place. When I tried to remove the hd, I pulledf another stupid newbie mistake. I managed to break the ribbon cable to the hd. CompUSA is more than willing to get me one for $107. A supplier on the compuserve forum has one for $48. My question is, does anyone have a scrap Toshiba Tecra 550CDT laying around with the hd ribbon cable still in it? I don't want to spend more than $5 + shipping because I still need to buy a hd as well. I can't see investing too much $ in this unit because I can go on eBay and buy an entire tecra for $200 or less and just keep mine for spare parts. Better still, buy an upgraded laptop with a dvd-rom for $300 or less. My choice would be to invest no more than $50 for the cable and hd and fix this one if possible. Can anyone help?
