Hey I recently bought a 5670 model (clevo 5600ds), and it seems that the screen inverts ALL colors when the computer starts up occasionally, usually a restart or shut down would fix this, doesnt happen too often but it still happends.

I could have sworn i saw a thread on this a while ago but I cant find it now so im posting..

any way to fix this?

thanks in advance

info:
directx 8.1

OK lets go...

What drivers did you install?? I am asking about the video drivers??

For the moment make sure you install the drivers in the exact same order as given in the user manual. Failure to do so can lead to all kinds of problems.

I know I am repeating this again and again but whenever something goes wrong - it is the Video drivers that are at fault So if nothing works out then its time to download the Catalyst 3.2 (not 3.4) drivers and control panel from www.ati.com and follow the instructions given below.

Try this out and lemme know if you still have the problem :-

the ones that are on clevo right now

driver date: 2/28/2003
driver version: 6.14.1.6307

trying the cat 3.2 right now
I think 6307 ARE the Cat 3.2 drivers...

You may save time by skipping that step...

what else could possibly cause inverted colors!?!? I can only think of driver related issues...

Give the cat 3.2 a try and see if it helps...feedback required after you test so dont post after a week

hahaha

k I installed the cat 3.2 drivers, device manager now reads video card as "radeon 9000 series," for now all i can say is they work, im going to go through a series of restarts now since those are usually the conditions for the glitch to occur.

I know it isnt the monitor itself, only possibilities which come to mind are video drivers or a slightly defective video chipset.

Dont do restarts one after another. I think the problem is because of some application causing a conflict with the display drivers...

I would just use the computer normally and if the problem recurs then I would like to see your post. IF it does happen again the next task is to isolate the program that caused the problem...

I am thinking internet explorer but dont ask why

lol, oops, oh well i did about 5 restarts, all is fine so far.

Thats a possibility though, if it happends again i'll let you know as soon as possible.

In the mean time I have one question: What are the differences between the regular cat 3.2 drivers and the clevo modified ones, besides the scaling to conserve power?
Look : Basically the base is the same...sometimes depending on which Radeon 9000 series (remember that part?) you select from that list - the actual appearance and some features may change...

The Sager drivers 'were' the cat 3.2 but arent anymore. They removed those drivers which is why I asked you to give the Cat 3.2 a shot.

Please pm me or post here if something goes wrong again...

well I actually got this comp off of pro-star ( http://www.pro-star.com ) so its not sager releasing shitty drivers, but even so I had the problem first with pro-star drivers, which I then upgraded directly from clevo, and still had the problem, and a few days later I posted.

oh ok...

the 3.2's work fine...no issues with any game except BF1942 where the ground kinda went away

haha k, would it hurt to use that d-force 2.0 mobility mod on it?
dude...just leave it as it is till you troubleshoot...
and save the install files on a CD so that you dont have to go dloading again...
I have all drivers from the ancient to the latest on a separate driver cd for my sager 5660...

hehe ok, the mobility mod didnt work anyway, it made it incompatible with win xp

ok, it did it again, except it was after i rebooted as requested from a firewall installation (freedom personal firewall), dunno if that means anything, but i tried rebooting again after that and it was still inverted, uninstalled firewall, and colors were back to normal, i think you might be right about drivers conflicting...

testing testing and more testing...

This is the fun part about these laptops - they are soo primitive compared to the goody goody crap the brand dudes give you I love testing and debugging my own system and making a list of conflicting software...

I have a pretty long list!!

Powerstrip and Rage3D Tweak Utility are in that list
So is Internet Explorer and Microsoft Windows XP-Pro with SP1 and those damned Updates

Just continue to use and isolate those software that cause problems...

System Stability under heavy use is our aim so stress test your laptop with Games, Intensive applications...run battery tests...run games under battery...you know...basically get to know the laptop inside out...

Each laptop has individual quirks thats what I like about em...gives em character...

haha k, once i get home i will check for conflicting drivers between video card and winxp sp1/internet explorer, in the event i isolate it though how would i change it so that they would not conflict any longer?
