Falcon Northwest Laptops - Page 6

Well, for anyone who still cares, the Falcon came in, 30 days after ordering it which was actually sooner than they told me.

It's beautiful. By far the best looking computer I've ever seen. I was also quite suprised by the performance of the Dothan / m9700, this thing has played everything I've thrown at it, from Warcraft 3 to Doom 3.

The color is a deep midnight purple, that colorchanges through shades of blue, and ends up with the emerald green you see in the picture. Pictures can't show you the beauty of this computer.

I love my Fragbook TL. It's incredibly fast! My only gripe is that the case is bent slightly around the trackpad leaving a little gap between the trackpad and the body on one side, but it's not really noticable and probably a result of the painting process. At any rate, mine is painted in Ocean (Dark Blue to Sea Green color shift) and looks incredible and performs even better! The black ops briefcase is sweet too!

there is no way i would pay 4300 to fragbook when i could get a t42 for 1300 less.. sorry but ibm has the BEST support in teh industry.. and from a company with longevity.. one has to wonder if FNW will be around in 2 years.

The T42 would be a faster machine then the cl56 as well...

NOW.. the paint is nice.. but for me.. even with money to burn.. i can't see it.. at least voodoo is in the 3000 mark.. and AW is less then that now i think..

I actually got my voodoo for under 3k, but that was when it was a CL50 and the exchange rate was in a much better condition.

whats funny is that you could get those same paint jobs from your local custom auto painter for probably a 1/4 less. they look cute though.

I wouldnt want to do that to a new 2,000 dollar laptop unless they have experience with paintaing notebooks, and even then, as long as it did not void a warranty, or there wasnt one to begin with.

How exactly are you configuring the T42??? I comparitavley priced the T42 to my TL, and frankly the price difference was minimal. Does IBM offer you a dead-pixel free monitor for a year? No. How about 3 years? No. I agree, the fragbooks are overpriced but as I've said quite a few times, you get what you pay for.

I actually found the same thing when I was looking at notebooks. I compared a T42p and my TL and I also found a very minimal difference, so I figured why not spend a bit more and get a killer paint job, warranty length pixel guarantee, the carrying briefcase, and Falcon's service has quite a good reputation as well.

T42p was about $2200 when I was pricing them a few months ago. That was with an edu discount that was pretty easy to get.

Its hard for me to relate because I'm 28 and not really into the whole paint job thing. I'd take a jet black or aluminum notebook any day of the week. I just couldn't bring myself to spend 75% more for a computer for a fancy paintjob. I would be afraid the novelty would wear off (maybe) and the computer would be outdated in a year (definitely if you're a gamer). I mean what happens to these gamer notebooks, like this one above in 16 months?

Anyway, I will reluctantly admit that paint job looks pretty cool. Actually if it was me, I'd want it metalic black--nothing else of any kind. Just straight up black.

Anyway, regarding support. I'd take Dell complete care over this any day of the week. I don't care about phone support because I can trouble shoot anything worth calling on my own. With complete care they are out to my lab fixing it within 24 hours. I don't have to ship anything anywhere. They overnighted me any parts I needed and it was here AM next bus day as long as I called before 8pm EST. Not only that, but i had some cosmetic damage (wear and tear) on my 3 year old notebook and they replaced the entire chasis 5 days before my warranty expired!!! I had to send it back for that (4 day turnaround). Now THAT is service--all for about 250 dollars extra and the time of purchase.

An entire new chasis! (sorry I had to say it again)
