Apache - I would suggest the Quadro card, if the Forces are recommending the dell M70, it's because it comes with a workstation card that supports higher functions of OpenGL. I would say order the lappie with the Quadro, and if down the line, you aren't happy, you can pick up the ATI9600 card for about $130.

Apache, I don't know what's more important to you, the durability of the notebook or the available power. If I were you considering he harsh environment that you'll be in I would recommend the Panasonic Toughbook. It's built like a tank, but I don't know how powerful it is to suit your needs.

Anyways be safe and remember to, "stay low and go slow".

I use a toughbook myself for work. It is a tank, I dropped it off a HumV and it was fine. But, it's no AW. Couple of guys here brought their lappies. They are having trouble with their CD-Drives.(dust) I assume you've deployed before, I try never to take anything I would cry about if it were to break, or be "acquired" by someone else. But it's your deal.

The Quadro FX Go1000, based on the Go5700, is for mobile workstations aimed at 3D modeling / rendering and CAD engineers using professional 3D design applications. Certified drivers have optimizations for professional applications which provide the Quadro FX Go1000 with greater speed, accuracy and stability over a regular Go5700.

It delivers the industry's fastest performance on key benchmarks, including industry-standard SPECviewperf 7.1.1 3dsmax-02, ProE-02, and Ugs-03 tests.

I was unable to find information regarding its pixelpipes and clockspeed, which are the most important things for gaming cards. But it seems that for other programs, its the mobile card to get. And also, since it IS based on the go5700 (128bit architecture, AGP 8X), it should have respectable performance in games.

Hopes that helps.

Sounds like a good idea, but this is a desktop replacement and therefore generates a decent amount of heat. You probably would end up cooking something. Maybe a material similar to a central air conditioining's filter, that would allow some ventilation but keep the sand out.

Thanks to all of you.

Well ill answer this with a few game suggestion with alot of people currently playing.
1. CounterStrike, Terrorist vs Counterterrorist. Playable only online. Buy half life and download version 1.6.

2.Diablo 2 playable offline and online. Online there is alot of people that are nice but alot of people that are jerks too. Online you can also get more items.

3.Battlefield 1942, Don't know much about this game but heard its good.

Another good place to look is www.mpogd.com they have a list of every multiplayer game out there.

Also consider Americas Army at http://www.americasarmy.com/. The graphics are great and best of all it's free thanks to Uncle Sam. You have to qualify with your M16, sniper and other weapons.

From what I've read it looks as if I can just remove a panel on the bottom of the A51-m to access the CPU and would be able to easily upgrade it. Is this correct?

I hope to use my AW to convince the Army they should've skipped the Dell.

I believe the military already has a contract in the works with Alienware according to their website.

That is correct, however, not sure how many (if any) processors past the 3.4GHz P4 Intel will continue to produce in the socket 478 package. The CPU is located under a copper colored heatpipe next to the GPU module.

I know what the web site says and I know what the guy putting out the software told me he's buying to run it. He says because Dell has such a good warranty.

Just have to wait and see I guess.
