I agree with Amir..
I do feel like going out and buying cause it looks soo good but I don't know how well it runs on an 8790 and what the gameplay value is.

Just ran it on my 8790. Runs fine if you tweak the settings right.

Since I am stationed in Germany (USAF), I know that the BX won't be getting it anytime soon, so I have just ordered it... I can't frigin wait to play this game. It reminds me of when Resident Evil first came out and I was playing it in surround sound, and that dam thing... it had me jumpin a couple of times.... i.e. when the dogs broke throught the window.. Anyone every play it or know what I am talking about??

How did you tweak your settings? I want to be able to run this on my 4780 on medium settings at 1152 x 864.

What would be great is if someone could let everyone know what are the best settings for each kind of laptop to run Doom 3 at a playable but high quality levels.

Like for 8790 use these settings, and 4780 use these settings, etc, etc.

Anyone?

I hear you and understand, but not with this game, i had fun shooting but not just that, getting absorbed into the storyline. It runs alot like the original Half-life story line, your walking around like a chicken without a head then something turns the facility to hell (lol didn't mean to do that) Anyway other than it just being god graphics and good gameplay, it doesnt require as much gpu power than i thought it would. and i have been the many people wonders," will it work on my pc?" If you look at my specs below, i was able to run doom 1024x768 at high settings (AA off) and it ran like a charm. Since the game is primarily indoors, the graphics are no pushed to the limit.and it eases up on your gpu. MAny say to shoot down to medium cause not much difference but personally i see a difference in video performance. Doom 3 is sure to be the birth of a whole new generation of gaming, i gurantee it. oh and by the way.... BUY THIS GAME!!!!!

P.S.: also for bit torrent and warez downloaded, Doom3 has a CD-Key for installiong game and connecting to multi-player (psss don't be cheap, buy the game)

I agree. Buy the game.

FullScreen but with Black Bars

I have got a Voodoo Envy m780 (Sager 8790 equivilant). I have tried 1280x800, but the game plays a little too jerky for my liking. If I set it to 960x600, then it scrolls left and right, as if you've set the resolution too high. I am playing Doom3 at 800x600 at High Settings.

I wanted to find out how to set the screen resolution so that it doesn't stretch the game to full widescreen, but that the 800x600 reaches the top and bottom of the LCD. So that I get a thin black bar on the left and one of the right as well.

Normally when I set this within the ATI Control Panel, it creates the 800x600 image in the middle of the LCD with black all around the image.

Can anyone help me?

hey guys...

i bought doom 3 yesterday and ill just say this right off: The Sager 8790 is not a doom 3 computer. A: you cant run it in widescreen. B: you cant run it at more than 1024x768 or else it will freeze and crash every five mins. Lastly, the more you lower the resolution the smaller the viewing area is. So if u want to pay 55 bux for a 4x4 inch picture of ass that crashes every 2 mins, be my guest!

800x600? my 8790 full screen just streches everything so it fits perfect.....
the only problem ive had is CS you have tell cs that you have a widescreen display in a different screen menu.

I beg differ, I was skeptical, but even on my 4780, Doom3 runs suprisingly well. I'm running 1024x768, medium, and it runs good. I've got a desktop with a 9800 Pro card in it, and I'm still preferin to play it on my laptop. Not quite the performance, but dang near just as good. So far haven't had any lockups or crashes, machine does get really hot, but that's a 4780 thing.

And as far as the small display, just set it up to where your display is stretched. 1024x768 will show up as full screen, and scales fairly well, more than adequate, and way better than runnin in a window in my opinion. Anyway, just my $0.2

I wonder how well Doom 3 runs on the new Dell XPS laptops with a 256MB ATI 9800's in them. I would love to see benchmarks.

Any other idea how to get Doom 3 to run nicely on my Sager 8790?

I run doom at 1280X1024 high setting and so far not a single crash yet. i ran the time demo test and i got about 32.2 FPS. The only tweaking is i changed the image cache to 256 instead of 20 that came with the game.

Hey, I have an 8790 and it crashed on me sometimes, do I need to get some driver updates for my laptop? I don't know where to get them, can anyone help me out?

you need the OMEGA 4.5 drivers from omegadrivers.net. Its in their archive page of drivers, I think those are the only ones that seem to work for the 8790 playing DOOM-tree....

Does anybody elses Circuit City do rainchecks. I'm asking because i went in later on tuesday and they were all sold out and i got a raincheck (wrote up a slip) Then i went back in later in the week and got it for $15. This might depend on your location or somthing but just letting you guys know. Oh yeah this game runs excellently on both of my systems. My laptop is a 4750 with a gig of ram and a 3200 and my desktop is a 2500 barton with a gig of ram and a 9800np. Laptop is running at native resolution and desktop is running at 16x12.
