i was just curious becuase i don't see very much discussion about this topic? or maybe someone could tell me if they already picked up the game. so im wondering what setting will peolpe with the I9100 or Ixps beable to play at

and one other question right now i have the dell vid drivers would it be better to get the omega drivers? and if it does matter which drivers i have could someone tell me the steps to installing the omega drivers. Thanks a lot i appreciate your response.

My specs:
Dell I9100
3.2 ghz Wuxga
1024mb
128mb radeon mobility 9700
60 gb hd @ 7,200 rpm

I'm guessing 800 X 600 with High Details ( or maybe 1024 x 768 w/ low to med details??) for MR9700.

MR9800: I'm guessing 1280 x 1024 High details may be possible.

I used this URL for reference:

i'm running halo at 800x600 only, mid to high details. combat gets too choppy otherwise.

i think doom3 won't be any different, though seriously, the bungie chaps have a lot of work to optimize their engine.

the graphics are dated, and it runs so badly while far cry at 1024x768 is just fine.

doom 3 is out buy it and try it.

I have your same rig Pat and Im guessing I'll run it on medium settings 800x600. Maybe 1024 res but I think thats a bit optimistic

I'm thinking with a 64MB 9700, probably 800x600 at Low.

64 MB= low
128 MB= Medium
256 MB=high
512 MB=Ultra

I know there is no 512 MB card out there. Ultra would probably require those parallel 6800's Nvidia has.
I'm expecting 1024x768 at medium. 800x600 seems conservative considering that my radeon 9600 PT runs UT2k4 at 1680x1050, all settings maxed out.

Doom 3 will not run at high quality!!!

It has okay fps at 1024*768 medium quality but high quality is unplayable with the 9700 pro 256mb card

Here is a big article that helps give a better idea:

800 x 600 in Medium Detail. No AA. (With an optimistic outlook)

It's pretty much a 9600 desktop card.

how well can u run doom 3 with the mr9800 on a 9100.. ultra high??? or just high
post #14 of 18
1024x768 @ medium or high i would think (for mr9800 256mb)
I run 1024x768 medium on the laptop. high quality works, but I'm betting it will have slow points.

The 9800 should do 1024x768 high just fine. Might need 1gb of RAM to be perfectly smooth though.

I was just playing it, i put it on 1024X768, meduim quality and the latop locked up, i think it was a heat issue.

im not actually even the least bit interested in playing this game, but i will let you guys know how it runs with a P4EE and a M18 after I get the card at the end of this week.

So interestingly enough, I have a 64MB Mobility 9700 and bumping up from 800x600 Low quality to 800x600 Medium quality causes no performance hit. This is sort of contradictory to that Doom 3 hardware guide, but hey, I'm happy.
