btw the hottest part of the computer when gaming is the left palm rest. is this where the cpu is?
Thread Starter
left palm rest has the hard drive under it...part of it comes under the touchpad
under the right palm rest is the batter

the ram both chips are accessable from underneath the laptop the ram chips are right under the N and M keys and space bar..

the cpu is closer to the f10/f11 keys and the silver bezel thing on top of those the sink extends towards the power buttons

i wonder if there is a way to improve cooling of the harddrive.

Under the Harddrive is the wireless lan card, modem, and bluetooth also goes there

Both chips of ram, both accessable from under the lappy

cpu heatsink

cpu (heatsink taken off)

close up of cpu with as3 on (shiet a$$ job of it too)

top of heatsink

bottem of heatsink

just for cracks....the "Intel Inside Pentium 4" sticker they put on my 4750 instead of the "AMD64" sticker :P

someone say somethinggggggggggggggggggggggggg i knw they aint the greatest quality but but but??....
its the captions which make them usefull. I wish they were all the same orientation. But that's the only complaint I have.

The webcam is to hard to hold steady while taking a pic and the quality isn't that great. As for the orientation the 1st and 3rd is the same so you can see whats under those parts the 2nd i took but its turned around i added it in there just to give you a clearer picture of the lappy (it seemed like a better quality pic then the 3rd) and the rest seem alright i guesssss...

I want benchies! And new temps! Your setup is almost the same as mine. Btw I think Doom3 will be out tomorrow, so I will test the temps running that as well.

right now the fans cool it down to about 40C and thats the lowest temp i've seen so far im gonna give it a day or 2 to let the as3 sit properly and then see what kind of temps im getting
post #93 of 121
Looking at those pictures, I don't think you applied the arctic silver properly. There are instructions on the Arctic Silver website under "Support".

I agree with DanW. That looks like waaaay too much AS5, personally. Using too much AS5 (as well as letting it flow over the edges of the chip) actually insulates the chip, meaning less heat is being transferred to your heatsink.

All you need is a single drop, about the size of a grain of rice. If you're going to try to apply it again, just scrape the current layer off (gently!) with a razor or credit card edge - don't use a paper towel or anything that may leave lint or other foreign materials on the CPU.

Lastly, did you apply AS5 to your GPU as well, or are you still using the stock thermal tape? From what I've seen (and experienced), the GPU is a significant source of heat as well, causing normal temps to soar 10C or more during graphics-intensive games like FarCry.

I felt those temps too. Up to 70 in gaming.

that was just a quick pic to show some as3 on the die i cleaned it and used a thin layer over the cpu die. however the temps when the fans come on they the temps drop to about 40C sometimes 39C. But they they slowly start to rise again to about 55C where the fans kick in again and they again drop back down to 39-40..is this happening with anyone else? its happened to me the whole time i've had my laptop with the thermal pad and with this thermal paste. do you think there's still to much and its insulating it? or is this normal because the fans arent on constantly like a desktop cpu would have so the heat rises while its being cooled passively..?
set it to always on so the fans are always on.

with always on at 2.23GHz right now im typing this on msn talkin to ppl n jus browsing sites the fans are on low right now and the temp is at 46C-47C
post #99 of 121
I saw a review a while back where they used a variety of thermal pastes, including tooth paste, and nothing at all. They got CPU temperatures within a a degree or 2 of each other. No one should think that Arctic Silver is going to be a silver bullet to significantly lower the temperature of your CPU. It should allow for the best transfer of heat possible, though.

during gaming the highest temp i've seen so far is 59-60 nothing over that..
