I bought one @ BB 10 days or so ago. They had it on sale for $1249.00 without a rebate
My first impression was the LCD screen is just so so!
The battery life I'm still testing but not impressed right off the bat. I charged it full and then I only got 1:45 playing a DVD with the Power DVD software that it came with on the first try.
I recharged again over night and played the same DVD with Windows media player 9.1 and got 2:12 minutes this time. Neither is stellar so far.
I have the LCD brightness up all the way as this is not a overly bright screen. I'm getting used to it but it's not as good as many others I've seen.
Performance seems pretty good thou but I have not really taxed it yet. I would like to see how others fair with this battery?
An amusing(and annoying) thing thou. I right away tried to order another battery as a backup so I looked on the Gateway web site and had no problem finding the part number for the battery. They showed 2 batteries, a 6 cell and a 9 cell. I figured it probably came with the 6 cell and that is why the battery life is not so good so I would order the 9 cell battery. My first call was to the 800 number on the web site. After a 10 minute hold or so, I was asked for the Model number and serial number of the machine I was calling about. I gave it to them and I was then told that Gateway does not have a model 4520GZ and the serial number was not a Gateway serial number. to quote the CSR I spoke with, "are you looking at the bottom of the laptop where it has a sticker that show a model number and serial number". My respone of course since I was is that "yes I am, I know which is the top and bottom of a laptop". I even tried to direct him to there own web site where I easily found the right model number and part number. His response " We have nothing to do with that and it won't help me".
It seems they didn't show the battery part number as valid part. He suggested among other things that I take my laptop back to Best Buy and get a valid serial and model number. After LOL, I said I needed some one elses help and he asked if there wasa phone number on the sticker I was looking at? There was so I did call that number. Again after a hold of ten minutes or I was helped and told about the same thing about model number and part number only this time they were interested in looking at the web site to see where I found this. After I directed them to the right spot, there response was"Oh so you want the 9 cell battery" Dahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Unfortunatley I spent another 20 minutes on the phone and was told yes we found the part and we will transfer you to some one who will place the order for you. You can guess what happened . Click Click and disconnect. I had to go to a meeting so I tried again 2 hours later and even gave them the persons badge number who had helped me before and said they found the right part and it was available. The final response was. "I'm sorry, tbhis battery has been discontinued and is no longer available. Of course I said, "This is a brand new model, how can it not be available. Bottom line, I'm still trying to order another battery or maybe I'll just take it back. Sorry for the long post
