Excessive Laptop Heat

How to stop cooking my lap while we watch TV and surf web?

From what i've heard, P4 is a hot chip compared to p4M or celeron. Sounds like slower Mhz will reduce heat. Sound like slower hard drive will also reduce heat. Any other choices I can make to reduce heat (for comfort reasons).

Does the above sound true, and what are the largest variables?

Are any of the sager models particularly cool or hot (temp-wise).

FYI: I am a small biz user, not a gamer.

Thanks

Wrong, the P4M is made to run hotter than the desktop P4 and often does. I'm not talking about how much heat they can produce, but how hot they are designed to run.

The best thing to reduce heat is the heatsink and fans which are excellent on the Sager systems and why they can run a 3.06GHZ CPU with HT without throttle problems.

Running the same programs, will a P4 sager be equally hot to the touch as a P4M?

Will lower Mhz lower the heat output?

And what does "HT" mean? Thanks

HT is hyperthreading. Yes, lower speed produces less heat usually. As far as hot to the touch of each processor, it depends on the cooling system. Like I said the P4M is designed to be able to run hotter and has the potential to be hotter to the touch. All high end notebooks with extreme graphics get hot to the touch when pushed.
