HP Compaq nw8000 Review with Pictures - Page 2

nc8000 audio recording

Obviously, this thread wasn't created just for me, but thanks to everyone who posted. It's been very helpful in my buying decision... I got my nc8000 last week. At first, I thought that the screen resolution was too high, but now I'm used to it and I actually like it.

Just one problem, though. I'm having difficulty recording audio through the mic/line-in port. If I record using Windows Sound Recorder, I can record in stereo. But in any other program, I just get mono. Is there something I have to set up? I think the software's okay because I do exactly what I do on my desktops and they record in stereo just fine.

Also, I can't hear any audio while I'm recording. I can only play it back AFTER I've recorded... which is kind of annoying.

Any help is appreciated for an otherwise perfect (for my needs) notebook.

P.S. My laptop didn't come with a cover for the pc card slot - there's just a gaping hole. Is it supposed to be like that? Also, has anyone added a second hard drive in the multibay? I'm thinking of buying the multibay HDD adapter and adding my own 2.5" drive (it's way cheaper).

Hmmm... It seems to be a software problem, since the computer works ok in Windows sound recorder. You could go and check:

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio Tab

and see if changing setting would help any. Then have a look at volume control and see if it is ok.

If I may ask, do you get two indentical tracks in Sound Recorder or are they authentically stereo? As I was guessing that maybe Sound Recorder automatically duplicates mono into stereo.

I also get "no sound when recording" with my desktop computer, which has M-Audio Delta sound card and Sony Sound Forge 7.0. It's kinda annoying, but I haven't yet resolved the problem. Actually, I don't know if you should hear sound during recording (I bought the program just recently), but I guess so.

does nw8000 support "theater mode"?

I'm going to buy a nw8000 notebook, but first I must know if it's possible to use S-Video TV Out in "theater mode": I mean watch a DVD or other video files in full screeen mode on S.video out while normally working with other applications on desktop (it's a basic feature for the purchase).
Is there anyone that tried this funcion?

Thanks a lot!!
