then turned up settings a little bit...2 from low to medium...then computer went freeze again..

also tried UT2004...plays fine.but randomly turns bluescreen and auto restart..

any ideas? thanks..

i prefer fresh winxp pro install if he has a copy, or at least uninstall the unnecesary pre-installed programs, also uninstall norton anti-virus and install avg since nv2004 slows he machine.

check at what speed his cpu is running
donwload the newest omega driver www.omegadrivers.net
the hard drive is slow of the m68xx series so sometimes it freezes and turn the game into slide show, it happens with me when i play cod, however i played the demo of ut2k4 and it was fine

Sounds like there's something wrong with the video drivers. Did you uninstall the old ones b4 installing the omegas?

i played UT4 for 2 hours last night with settings on high with my 6810 and had no problems at all. mind you i have 1gb or ram and the 7200 rpm drive... it's not the model, maybe just a bad machine, or maybe the 90 thousand things emachines preinstalls were still running in the system tray?

thanks for the suggestions..I did install the newest omega driver...

I guess what I will do is to get him to format HD and install windows xp instead. Hopefully that will fix it...

one more note..how to check what clock speed cpu is running at?

under system properties it shows 800MHz but i'm sure it's not....
it was loading war3 and ut2004 faster than a 800Mhz machine would

I have one of the original 6805s (purchased 1/25). I run wc3 on high settings just fine. I've spent many hours on wc3.

As someone asked before, did you uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones? You need uninstall the old before installing the new.

I haven't played ut2k4, but I do play Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, etc. on high settings without any problem.

I have to tone it down a little for Far Cry, but it is still very playable if I wanted to play it. I don't think that FC has as good of an atmosphere or play immersion as the others.

If you still have the power profile left at it's "out of the box" setting, it will speed step even on AC. In other words, it likely is running at 800MHz when you check it in the properties. Set to Home/Office desk or always on if you want it at full power all the time on AC. I would get into how to make it run balls to the wall on battery also, but there are tons of threads already.
