8887 Screen Resolution default

I am unable to set my default screen resolution. As per previous post, I choose 1600x1200 32bit & 16bit, but upon reboot my resolution switches back to 640x480. It'll get old having to change my resolution every time I boot, especially when I am trying to show it off. Anybody got more of a clue than I? I have tried numerous resolutions, via XP Display Properties, and the instant system tray resolution changer. My screen changes resolution flawlessly, just won't retain the settings. Thanks!

try using a different version of the video drivers. i had the same problem once but i don't recall which drivers i was using at the time.

Are you using the default drivers that came with the system? Please stick to those drivers for a few weeks and verify system stability.
I have a feeling you have used the Cat 3.4 drivers and not the ones that came on the CD.

If you HAVE used the ones on the Sager CD and if you HAVE installed drivers in the order specified in the manual then neglect this post

Yeah this kind of thing is a driver problem. On my old desktop when I first got it and before I installed drivers the resolution would change when I would start the computer up.

I went ahead and reloaded drivers and all is sweet. I will stick with these drivers for a few weeks while verifying stability. You guys are awesome, thanks!

Excitement Abounds

Caught between the walls of indecision, and tolerance. I love this machine, however, it really better learn to behave. I have found the original ATI drivers work great retaining screen resolution config settings, but like others, my 8887 fails to complete Mark3D2001SE bumpmap testing. Locks up and can not complete test. So much for waiting for system stability. *grin* I followed gtferrai's instructions for 3.2 and installed 3.4 drivers. Even used Drive Cleaner to completely wipe old ATI driver. Unfortunately DX9.0 was preinstalled and HT enabled when I got this machine, blah. Now Mark3D2001SE runs fine with CAT3.4 and I get a semi decent score of 2743 (default test), but screen resolution won't remember res settings again upon reboot. ahh Hmm.... Golly

Dude that is a HORRIBLE score!!!

There is obviously something wrong with the system.

I recommend immediate FULL OS REINSTALLATION by yourself using NTFS SLOW formatting. Install the drivers from the CD in the order specified (Except the video drivers).

Download the newest Sager M9 drivers from www.sagernotebooks.com and install these instead of the ones on the CD.

For the moment dont install all drivers...

Just do CHipset, Audio and Video...the rest are unnecessary really...

Lemme know how it goes or PM me...

You can also take a look at the gsferrari's 5670 review in the review section of the forums where I set up the 8887 for the benchmarks...It might be helpful...

ykes - typo 7743 score

My 3DMark score was actually 7743, sorry GS. Not sure how I did that one.... Anyway, I just ran the exact same test on my home PC 1200AMD GF2/4600TI and got a score of 8627. That is pretty much my comparison.

Thanks for all the help!

Awesome Review Post

This is old news to most, but from one of the younger Sagers family members I'd like to say, Gsferrari, your rewiew post is Awesome! Ya'll check it out at: http://sagerforums.com/showthread.ph...is+5670+review

NP about the typo and thanks (for the review related praise )

I still recommend a re-install of OS by yourself so that you know that everything has been done right. Do this only if you are comfortable with it...nah its no big deal...I did an OS for the first time when I got my 5660 and since then i've done about 3 dozen reinstalls just for fun

OS_nstall

Good idea, especially since, being new, the drives don't yet contain the doubt inducing... wonder if I'll want or need it later, sedative/laxitive. It's all fresh. Though I admit I am a bit hesitant in fear of finding myself missing meals and family time, while pounding on keys hoping repetiousiously for a successful reinstall. No matter; it'll be fun, wish me luck!
