cannot connect to internet with WEP enabled

i cant seem to connect to the internet with WEP enabled. however, i still get a signal from the router. anyone know why?
router: D-link DI-624
Wifi card: the "free" card that ibuypower gave me, shows up in connections and hardware manager as: PRISM 802.11g Wireless Adapter

i think i configured the router and the wifi card correctly but im not sure.
the internet works fine if WEP is disabled.

anyone know a program that will configure this for me correctly? and are there any dangers of having WEP disabled?

Its not unusual for there to be a problem with non-like brand components in wireless. You'll probably find it the card/router work without WEP and maybe even with WEP enabled with only 64-bit but not with 128-bit.

That's life. Like taxes, it sucks but there's not a lot you can do about it. It may be there are some settings that could help but then again, maybe not.

If it works without WEP enabled, you've probably got the settings right. Just not compatible. Try it with 64-bit instead of 128-bit.

And yes, you should try to get some WEP enabled. Its not going to save you, especially if some hacker is determined to get in. However, it will serve to cause the casual hacker to move on to easier pickings. WEP is not very secure but its better than nothing.

You should also disable your router from broadcasting your SSID. And change the user names and passwords whereever you can. Enable whatever WEP you can manage.

eh....
unless u have a netgear router i don't think i could really help u with that...
maybe if u post the router u have someone here will have the same one and tell you.

You could also read the directions to your router, use google, or simply just log in to your router and take all of 5 minutes to look for the setting.

ok i tried the mac addeess thing and apparently it didnt work. i think i did it wrong though because even my desktop was not able to access the internet. And so i restarted it using the little but and reconfigured everything.

This time i tried to use it with WEP enabled. i was able to get my wireless card to connect to it after i downloaded this program to configure the wireless card. Its a pretty basic program which is just an alternative to the windows wireless configurator. This time it worked after i entered in the WEP key.
