I might be getting an "expensive" laptop but it will be alot less with a college discount.

I just made $400 on ebay on sunday....so logicaly that is what my budget went up (what i am at....$1700 now?) I could buy one nice lappy for that price with the works (7k60, 1gb ram , 128mb M11) but why would i? I'd rather spend $1000 on a R3000t and put in $300 for upgrades later (ram and 7k60)

well, I earned my lappy in a different way. I got a full scholarship to college so my dad said he would buy me a lappy for $1800 (which I would've done anyway with money I had saved up). I sweet talked him and told him about how I needed it to last four years and has to be able to run CAD programs so now I'm getting my sig (plus XP Pro, targus sport deluxe backpack, 4x dvd-burner, internal turbo wireless, etc.) for ~2600. moral of the story is: work hard in school and you don't have to work hard during the summer

I'm sure everyone has a different story for their kick*ss computer acquisition. My wife and I are both in the working world and I was allowed to set aside some money from every pay check for my purchase. Stuck it in a little interest-earning account. After about 7 months of saving and some research and time spent on this website , I purchased my own kick*ass CX5 from Hypersonic. Just my .02.

Peace

If you want to see who have a lot of money on these forums check out the car thread on alienware section.

I am not rich, but @ 35 years of age, have gone through all graduate programs available, and just started to jump into the real world about 4 years agos.
My sig is about to change since two of my systems are getting outdated and I can afford new stuff now.
I strumble the forum accidentally because I was looking for new system. After decided to register in Jul, I have learned a lot from the forum -- both technical stuff and valuable general info.
I think most people on this forum are college groups who are actively involving with gaming. They tend to get the best and up to date machine available whether parents help them or they have been saving good portion of fund. Way to go
I really am not supporting anyone to go for financing in order to get the BOMB system unless you have solid regular income one way or another.
Just my two cents. Well, time to finish lunch and get back to the office

My story:
I started this summer with $385 in my pocket, 2 month later I made nearly 1500 on ebay, so now i am shopping!
What did you sell to make $1500 on eBay?
My parents paid for mine, but then again, we only get a new computer once every 5 years or so. My last one was a PIII 800 mhz in 2000, and the one before that was a P 75 mhz.

I see many people here at the forum have laptops with P4 processors, and they make alot of noise. Do any of you with P4 laptops use them at school? Here in Norway people mostly want Centrino laptops because of the low noise, low heat, and the light weight.
P4 is a desktop replacement so it is not exactly for "dragging around to school" so does it matter? i see you have XP-M, not exactly centrino, but pretty good i think.
Its not centrino right, but i dont need centrino since im done with school and im only using my laptop at home.

I am by no means rich and neither is my family... however, technolust makes me buy stuff/trade stuff all the time. As a small example, I have gone through about 7 laptops in the last year and a half

Where does the money come from? My interest in music paid off, as did my constant good grades in school...meaning... I play in a band and get a minimum of 25$ an hour, with "gigs" every week, and well scholarships, with which I have paid my tuition and quenched my technolust.
