I'll be honest, he is right with that one, maybe not the way he expressed his opinion, but in terms of what he's saying...Doom3 is a very advanced very good looking, but almost unplayable game, it reminds me of Halo 1.0 for PC...hopefully the can patch the engine up!

No, you cannot blame software developers. Infact this is the problem with EVERYTHING software is so advanced that the hardware cannot keep up.

People can write programs that will not work on any pc due to the hardware limitations. And alot of people think software is bringing computers new technology down but infact its the hardware companies :P

But its no ones fault its just software only limitation is the hardware. Hardware limitation is everything ;D

geee.... get a new comp and it will run . lot of people had DOOM 3 run fine.

If you haven't noticed, the computer industry is always like this. When Half Life first came out it used bleeding edge technology. Now we look at it as old and outdated (although I still love counter-strike). If you don't want to upgrade everytime a new cutting edge game comes out, I would recommend switching to console gaming so you won't be so aggrivated with how the game runs.

plus did u try to run the game on ultra set??? lol scale the settting down

??that doesnt make sense....they should make the hardware and the software technology in sync...its like creating a hover booster for a normal car...since it doesnt hover their is no point.....since the hardware cant handle the software technoloy their is no point..who the hell are u making it for then...im just saying they should think it through..although ur are right that software is improving faster than hardware, but they have to never the less be in sync!!!+i bought my laptop like 2 month ago..it has the latest stuff from alienware..except the hdd
post #9 of 77
Um, they are. HardOCP did a review and had Doom 3 running fine on low settings for a system much, much weaker than the Alienware you have in your sig.

lovearea51m - being as im a brit area51m user as well, i know that Doom3 doesnt get a release over here until next friday.

Ok ay as i live in london the games come a bit later so im getting doom3 on the 13th
My advice is to wait until you get a legal copy before moaning about settings. The hacked downloadable versions are dodgy at best and sometimes not really worth even trying the game out. Chill man

I knoww it doesnt make sense. But software companies always try to better themeselfs and others. also Software makes a "computer" not really the hardware. Hence why they are always getting bleeding edge.

Beacuse writing programs is getting ALOT easyier. And there moving faster than hardware is ;D

The Gaming industry is a big part of what drives hardware companies forward, that being said - are you dumb?

They made Doom3 so that it'll be a good looking game for the next 2 years, they also incorperated lower settings that are more inline with todays tech --- AKA the ultra high settings are reserved for systems that don't exist yet.

PLUS, the game still looks great in lower resolutions.

Yahs, Beacus of games and gamers hardwae is where it is now

Man I went to CompUSA and they said it won't be out till tomorrow

Well he seems to be running it fine on his 9100 Dell with 9700 128 meg.

when you buy a laptop you SHOULD be smart enough to realize that it is going to be outdated VERY quickly, and will have a hard time keeping up with games that are on the bleeding edge. You are being foolish and nieve to think that you can run every game that comes out at high resoluitons with max settings, it just doesn't happen.

id should be appluaded for making a new game that pushes the envelope bringing the newest hardware to it's knees. Games like this keep the industry moving. If people didn;t make games that did this to new hardware, we would have new games look like the original Unreal Tournament. I don't know about you, but I like the good looking new games...

Software drives hardware just like hardware drives software. It's a give and take relationship. If you are willing to spend some money, you can get a top of the line card that will play current and future games fine for two or three years.
Ok-
I own a 51m @ 3.2GHz and a 9600...ya, don't blame me about the card, blame AW...they broke my promise like a bad girlfriend...that game needs a patch I think, @ 800x600 low, the fps is almost the same as 1024x768 medium...doesn't make since in my brain...and brace yourselves people, as today is the official release date, there will be thousand of moaning gamers in the next weeks...

Jake-

P,S, half-life was not the 'bleeding edge' it played fine on a TNT2 and the geforce line (i think series 2) was already out...

This is the truth, three years should be about the end of your laptops product life cycle. After the second year I turn my lappy into a work desktop and then I purchase a new "ultra portable."

when the OpenGL god, John Carmack, decides it is time for a new graphics engine, what he makes redefines what is possible for the next 3-5 years.
what use is a new engine that makes itself out on modern hardware. do you want to play games that look the same for the next 5 years, until Carmack or Sweeney or Crytek or whatever invent the next greatest thing. If that was how the software/hardware paradigm worked, then hardware would barely ever advance!
