Need Help Deciding

Hey everyone, I have read many of your posts and they have confused me quite a bit. I had intended on ordering my a51m notebook today, but I am wondering if I should wait until the pci express comes out. I dont want to wait until 2005 for it. But if it was going to happen in say september or october, it might be worth the wait. What do you guys think.

It will not happen that soon. Period. I mean, look at the new Sentia. That thing has been on the site for a long time now and still no one who ordered it has received it. So even if a PCI-e lappy ended up on the website by October (it won't), you wouldn't get it until 2005 anyway.

Hard to say, I deal with all the major vendors in my line of work and no one has sent any mobile product announcements, like model XXX will be shipping on a particular date. I did get a bulletin that my company (Siemens) has prototype laptops being tested on the "grantsdale" chipset but again not ETA.

I do remember when the vendors announced the PCI standard, and we still deployed EISA based servers for months into the conversion. From announcement to market with PCI it was 12 months. We had test units in six months, but nothing happend inside of twelve months. So I guess it boils down to how long can you wait it out? 4 possibly 5 months?

if you really need a laptop and want good service i dont think AW is your best bet with my experiances but go ahead. im stuck with mine in not totally unhappy. but i had unrealistic expectations. i built a a64 3200+ computer with a 9800pro that clocked at 22k 3dmarks2001 and 6500 3dmarks2003 and i wasnt happy with the errors i got with the system and probobly faulty hardware. so i got a AW now i want my a64 back. no i didnt sell it yet. im hoping somehow i can keep it so i can play doom III and matrix online on it full detals. so heed ahead with caution little one.

i basicly made one big jump down in quality and service. DAMN someone wanna buy a AW for 2k slightly used. will do a turtle wax job to make look better. lol

They're great machines. Honestly, I wouldn't wait for PCIe. Even when it comes out for Laptops, it's probably not gonna be worth the hassle. Invest in a 51m for use now and for use everywhere, and then consider getting a laptop for major gaming. I love mine for gaming right now, but I will def be getting a desktop in a years time for real gaming. This is just nice for lan's and stuff.

Have you guys checked out the fragbox2 from Falcon NorthWest? It's really powerful and very portable. I might get one of those instead of a lappie.

And probably costs a pretty penny more than the AW. In the end, it's really up to you and your preferences. But remember, for that you'll have to have a desk where as a laptop you really don't.
