Nvidia or ATI

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
Ok, this might be another dump post, sorry. I have always had ati cards on my desktops. I currently have a 9800 pro on my dell. I think I am going to go ahead and order my a51m today and hope that they come out with an upgrade to the 9800 some time in future. Is there any real difference between the 2 cards on the notebook. Would love to hear everyones opinion about which card is better. That is the last decision I need to make before ordering.

Seems to me, you have your ATI folks... and then you got your Nvidia Folks...

personally i likes Nvidia, its the offical card of my beloved FFXI

This is down to perosnal taste. And perosnal Experince.

There both gr8 cards but for gaming i would go for the ATI.

but IMO
ATI = Gaming
Nvidia = CAD

its all price to proformance ratios. for desktops. but for laptops its all compatibility to proformance. i would reccomend any ATI over Nvidia. but since my name is navtiidia i like both navidia and ati for my desktops but laptops ATI all the way. Get it nAvTiIdia

both cards are as fast as my old geforce 3 ti 200 desktop version in my a643200+ system

ATI is the better of the two offered. But usually Nvid is from things using OpenGL and ATI for the Direct based stuff. Mainly, Nvid for CAD/CAM and ATI for games.

Which will run Doom 3 best: The ATI 9600, ATI 9700, or Nvidia Go 5700?

Should I wait for the 9700 or just plop down the dough for a Go 5700?

At this point, you might wait forever for the 9700. Try to tell the Rep how unhappy you are about the upgrade situation an maybe he will knock a few bucks off the price.

I called Alienware today with an inquiry about future GPU upgrades for the Area51m. He said the real answer so far is top secret but there are 256MB ATi AND nVidia cards coming out. If I heard this, I would wait until a newer card is released if I could wait.
