So far Doom3 + tweaks is running well - but still occasionally crashes to desktop.

Thanks for your help guys - I have to say - no company in the world has this support for their products such as PCTorque & affilations

*thinks about being Australian franchies of PCTorque* heheh
The Sager's website just updated a new ATI drivers in August 11th. You could get it there. I have that and running Doom3 with Aliendude's tweak really well. I get about 36FPS in Ultra setting.

I Just got this game today, i loaded it up and was ready to play but i could nopt because of my cd emulation software running. Finaly found the source and fired up Doom 3, when i looked at the automatic vid settings its 640x440 at medium. Do tyou guys think i can run at 800x6000 medium with 'good' frame rates? Also if anyone else has the 5600go how does it run in the game?
perform the tweaks in this thread and i think you'll be ok

cool, thanks

I applied the tweaks that aliendude posted. So far so good. I did the timedemo thing rincewind spoke of.

1024x768 Ultra Settings, V-sync on
33.4fps

i changed image_cacheMegs to 256 and only got 31.x hmm maybe its just my computer, or error, as most of you said it increase performance?

Overclocked the 9700 to 480/255 core/mem and got

41.7fps

Am I in the ballpark of what you guys are getting?

computer specs below

Keep in mind that the cacheMegs tweak doesn't really effect the timedemo, and that it doesn't do anything in Ultra High settings as everything is uncompressed(cacheMegs caches compressed images). Your results look ballpark for your specs, but I would disable V-Sync in the timedemo as there is no screen tearing with it off, and it almost always boosts your frames when you turn it off(just turn it back on when you want to actually play the game).

No Performance hit For enabling V-Sync

I have been searching for a way to get rid of the (minor) performance hit you take when you enable v-sync and I believe I have found it. You'll need Powerstrip to do this. First, create a performance profile for Doom 3. If the box that says 'Disable Support for Driver Options' is checked, uncheck it. Then, under the 'Driver Options' window in Performance Profiles, check the box that says 'Use Triple Buffering(OpenGL)'. Save the perfomance profile as anything you like. Then make an application profile for Doom 3 and choose the performance profile you just created to load whenever you boot Doom 3. This should eliminate any performance hit you would recieve from enabling v-sync!

Time for a stupid question

I have never sucessfully run Doom 3 for more than 10 or so minutes. I called Alienware and they said load the newest ATI and audio drivers. So I loaded the latest ati driver for the mobility 9700; it still froze. I downloaded the audio driver and it froze in less than 30 seconds. So I went and downloaded 1.05beta doom patch and was almost able to make it through to the second section. Any ideas? merci beaucoups.

Maybe a cooling issue?

could someone tell me how to get to the config file?

hey im a noob and i have noticed some tearing on Doom 3 i read everything in this thread but could someone tell me how to access the config file so i can change the setting to 256?

That's not what you want to do Nick

Go into the Doom3 Video settings and Enable V-sync.

That will clear up the tearing
why not that seems to be what everyone else did to make it go away?

I'm currently running the setup in my sig. I can't pull the same FPS you guys can with what was supposed to be the better video card for doom 3. The best solid 30 fps I can pull is 800x600 on high detail, shadows and everything on but no AA of Vsync. What seems to be the problem? What do you think I should be pulling, if anyone has experience with systems similar to mine. I know my system just got sent back to depot because there is a problem with the ram, it seemed like it was only using 512 megs too me, do you think that would cause a major problem? Specifically, the ram port on the right hand side wasn't allowing the ram the function correctly, causing Blue screen errors.

I dunno monkey...30fps with shadows and high details sounds right for your laptop. The 5700 isn't exactly a slammer for the D3 engine
post #95 of 100
I'm hoping that I get the laptop back and it is stupidly fast because the other ram slot wasn't working right....DON'T KILL MY DREAMS CRAIG!

you need to turn seta I_have_too_much_time_on_my_hands to "0"
I have not upgraded from the original video driver on my 7700 yet and every time I try to enable V-sync in Doom 3 my system freezes as soon as I click on that particular item. All the other settings in the Doom 3 video setup work as advertised. I am going to get round to the driver update soon but my personal "seta I_have_too_much_time_on_my_hands " is currently configured at -1.

Has anyone else come across this problem or have a solution?

Right now my problem with the video quality in Doom 3 is that when I move the mouse from side to side to look around the top 1/3 of the screen and the bottom 2/3 seem to be slightly out of sync - ie one section is moving faster than the other - again does anyone have any ideas apart from the driver upgrade?

Hopefully this weekend I'll get around to installing one of the newer the drivers from laptopvideo2go.
No, but seriously, the reason I asked what mine should be at is because I notice alot of guys on here with similar load outs as mine getting 1024x768 on high with decent frame rates and stuff like that using a 9600 pro. They could be full of it, given, but I'd like to think they ain't that full of shit. So, I figured since the 5700 was supposed to be a little bit better, I should be able to atleast pull comparable fps and I can't. I was curious to hear what anyone else might say who uses a similar setup as mine.
