New Sentia screen question?

Hello everyone! It doesn't sound like anyone has received a new Sentia with the 12.1 screen yet but.......does anyone know what the quality of the screen is going to be? Does it compare in quality and brightness to the Sony Vaio w/ "XBRITE" technilogy? The Sony has an awesome looking screen which is crystal clear and bright.......will the Sentia have anything like that quality? "XBRITE" from Sony looks really amazing, and I'm really hoping the AW Sentina will compare. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or has any info that would help me let me know! Thanks!

Soon to be Sentia owner.

No one has the Xbrite quality...cept Sony. Its the best there is right now and they own it.

I hope it is comparable. I have seen those screens on the 13.1 widescreen vaio and it looked pretty nice.

Yeah I've looked at the 13.1 inch Sony and I'm trying to decide if I should get the Sentia or the Sony. I may wait and see if other people here can give me an idea of how good the quality is on the Sentia. I REALLY hope it is comparable...that would make it absolutly PERFECT! Is the widescreen on the Sentia similar to that of the Sony?

Fujitsu also has a similar screen technology called Crystal View, a few other companies have a few models with their own version (HP, Toshiba and a couple of Sager models).

Someone in the Notebook General section said that he saw the ODM Uniwill version of the 12" widescreen Sentia while travelling abroad. He said the screen is wide-viewing angle, so it should be pretty good, but I don't think it would be up to XBRITE/Crystal View standards.

Bloke,
I agree. I think it will be good but if it were as good as the XBRITE or Crystal View, AW would have their own name for it such as the AWKBD (AlienWare Kick Butt Display).

AW would think up some spacy/alien term so it fits right in. lol

I think that all of us here who have a new 12.1 Sentia ordered will get them around the same time because the phases seem to update in unison. If no one has posted pics or more detailed info on the display once I get mine, I will post some info on its quality.

Gosh I hope somebody receives a new Sentia soon so they will post their impression of the display! A picture would be even better. Thanks to everybody for giving me their take on the issue....

If they are being truthful that means it could ship out by Wednesday the 11th and you could have it by Friday the 13th! That would be a bit too spooky to get your AW on the 13th. I bet you it is more likely to come the following week after that but who knows. I will be optimistic as mine is at the same stage and I have a feeling we will all get ours around the same time. Heck, I don't care if it does come on Friday the 13th as long as it is not a bad omen of bad times to come for my poor AW System!

Now that there are some new Sentia's being shipped.....remember to post some comments about the screen quality. I'd really like some feedback on that. I'm still trying to decide between a Sentia and the Sony S series w/ XBRITE. Thanks all for any info/pics.

I feel that one of the most important parts of a laptop is the screen. With my first laptop (Dell 8100) I paid the extra money for the best screen they had. However, one thing that helped make my decision to go with the Sentia over the Vaio S ever more reasurring was when I got the Sony Fall Catalog 2 days ago. It peaked my interest in the S and I checked the price on the net only to find that I would pay about $400 more than my sentia for the same thing, no warranty, crappy HD, but with XBRITE and ATI video. Although I love clean, crisp screens, I just can't justify the price/quality difference to go with the Sony. I feel that by choosing the AW (I could be wrong) I made the better choice.

Mikkola,

That was a great take on what I've been trying to struggle with in my decision. I have never actually seen an AW laptop, so it's hard for me to see the quality for myself. I have however seen and played with the Sony S. I love the screen on the Sony, but I would really like to get a Sentia because I've heard a lot of good things about AW. I would just hate to be dissappointed by the screen that's all. In what ways would you say AW has "better quality" than Sony? Is there anything specific that makes the Sentia standout? Thanks again for the reply and good insight....

I would say that you most certainly do not have to worry about the display. It is absolutely perfect. Has the gloss of the xbrite, super bright, and even. You will be very happy if you chose AW
