Thread Starter
I currently have two sticks of 256MB PC3200 Apacer DDR400 in my 5680. i kinda want 1gigs of ram now. where can i find cheap and reliable sticks of 512mb ddr400 for dual channeling and works fine in the 5680?

are kingstons good at newegg? the kingstons are about $100 a piece at newegg and are ddr400. but i'm not sure if they will dual-channel. how do u know if it will dual-channel ?

anyone got any recommendations?

The problem with notebook memory upgrades (Especially Sagers), is that you can find and buy the memory from almost anywhere; however, getting it matched to the unit and working is another question.

The Sager site sells them under "Accessories" ... IF you wanna drop $355! I am in the exact same situation as you! I really want 1 gig.

Do a search as there were a few happy (they worked) and a few unhappy (they didn't work) people that bought memory for their Sagers from secondary sources.

Doh sorry forgot that newegg doesnt let you cut and paste links - basically go to notebooks - then memory then search for pc3200 512MB stuff.

Bratag any idea if that works in the 5680?
Bratag, did you actually buy one and install it?
No I bought the Geil memory - I believe GEIL and one other brand are what Sager use. Anyway I had no issues with the GEIL. However corsair memory is good stuff and I have never had an issue with it anywhere else.

Another place to check is 18004memory. They actually sell a kit for the Alienware laptops 1GB (2x512) for like $190.

Ok using the search button available to this forum I did some research and discovered kingmax is pretty well accepted and seems to work cool and very well.

Here is your link

Y'all might want to check this out first!

Warden had a bad experience upgrading memory.

Hey Bratag I looked too and didn't find anyone recommending that Kingmax for the 5680, but wow it would be awesome if it would work, its only $97 per dimm!! If I can talk to someone who actually has it running, i'm going for it.
If you read the reviews on the newegg site about the kingmax it appears the problem with corsair/Geil can be the CL 3 whereas the kingmax has 2.5. I didnt have any issues with the GEIL - but if I was going for ram now I would get the kingmax.

sorry to keep posting, i was wondering if the posts you found on these forms happened to mention it working specifically with a 5680?
Well there were about 300 posts - I didnt read em all. A lot of the posts I found suggest that Sager uses Apacer and Kingmax as the two types of memory they install.

I just wrote Sager an email and asked if someone could look at this link that you gave me Bratag http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...155-119&depa=0 and tell me if the specs looked correct. Obviously they can't endorse it, but they could tell me if the specs were appropriate, then I'll take the risk and buy. I called PC Torque also, they said it sounded like it would definately work when I read them the specs.
