Apologies if this was already posted:

ZDNet announcement:

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/lin...9162425,00.htm

Order one here:

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...33-395654.html

Up to 9 hours of battery life, 802.11g, optional Bluetooth -- these are all firsts or features that otherwise barely work on Linux -- can it be real?

Will it be able to hibernate and awaken under Linux? I'm calling their tech support right now...

just got off the phone with some lady from India -- no one in her dept has tested a unit with Linux on it, and so she wouldn't vouch for anything.

Now I'm on the phone with someone else -- will update

Lorraine from HP says it's a no-go. Much sadness.
You can order the unit with the Agere a/b/g wireless, but it won't work under Linux from the factory.

The wireless is the new Agere WaveLAN trimode chipset, pdf here:
http://www.agere.com/client/docs/BC03006.pdf
which claims software support for Linux as well as peaceful co-existence with Bluetooth, but HP is having nothing to do with whether it works or not under Linux.

"Linux people always seem to know how to write their own drivers." She actually said that to me. Yes, give us all that nice proprietary info and we'll write the drivers, but don't expect me to read your friggin' mind, you twit!

She said the same is true of re-writing, Bluetooth, and hibernation.

Great racking sobs of grief. So close, and yet so far away.

That's all I'm going to say so I don't say something really nasty. HP, you almost had a customer, but you blew it.
