The "Doom3 Tech Support" Thread

Thread Starter
Doom3 just randomly shut off all the time. To fix this problem i switched over from the 7.99 drivers to the old 7.96 drivers form AW and it seemed to fix the problem. With the comp in my sig i have my doom3 settings at medium 1028xsomething resolution. I get a constant 50-60 fps and at worst when there are 3+ monsters i will get 35. Doom3 rocks and was actually better than what i expected. I have only had my comp for a few days and should have a full review up in a week. Good luck to everyone and enjoy some heartpounding doom3 action.

I have it shut off when it loads a new map once in a while. I think that will be fixed in the next patch by Id so no worries.

My Doom 3 plays for like ten minutes then crashes, plays for 10 minutes, then freezes, plays then crashes. I downloaded new drivers but when I try to install the drivers I get the following message:

setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software.

What gives? Anyone know? I have cl56 1.8 dothan centrino, 512 ram, 9700 radeon mobility.

Are you trying to install Drivers from the ATI site? Cause there for desktops only, but they do get moded to work on laptops e.g. Omega Drivers

I have seen some post that they're running fine with AW's drivers. I am loathe to use the Omegas because I've had problems with them in the past causing crashes and I even had to reformat once because of them.

I currently have ATI 6.14 (don't know what that equals in AW's numbers...I think they're 7.99). I've only played twice, once with a CTD after about 10 minutes and the other a freeze at about the same point. Running 1024, medium, vsync off, and no AA with imagecache at 128.

So, what is the verdict on this with respect to what drivers to use? I'd love to actually play this game instead of crashing, thanks.

I think the newest ones are based onthe 4.7 drivers It takes him a while to mod them after they come out. should be soon though.

Braingoo, what are YOU using with respect to drivers? Now the game crashes just after I start the game, in spots that previously I went through just fine...it's random now.

Has anyone tried to run doom3 with the Nvidia 5600 yet, someone let me know because that's what I have and I'm wondering how it will work.

So what is the final verdict on solving this problem? What drivers should we use to prevent crashes randomly in the game (espeically when loading new areas)?

Does anyone have any information on when the first patch will be released?

I am using the Omegas based on the 4.7 Cats...I have only had one hard lock, due to overheat from OC'ing though. The AW7.96 worked perfect in Far Cry for me, but I have not used them in D3.
