catty 4.9 beta report - Page 2

navtiidia ,

Thankyou very much for opening my eyes to this dekstop driver hack.

Using the "Doom 3: CATALYST 4.9 BETA
ATI is providing an early version of CATALYST 4.9 to users interested in increasing performance of Doom 3." ,

has drastically improved the speed in D3. I can now play at 1024x768 high settings with above average performance. Or my favourite at 800x600 with Ultra Settings for silky smooth play . Plus these drivers seem so stable compared to the 7.99's I previously used.

Thankyou again.

Help ...

I installed and ran the modd thing.... but when i try to install the 4.9 drivers it gives me an error and says it cant detect somthing...
You run the mod BEFORE installing.

Run the exe that extracsts the files to c:\ATI\Wherever Then point the mod to that folder click mod then install hte new drivers. (its good practicise to uninstall the orginakl drivers 1st)

i ran the mod... then i tried to install 4.9 but it didnt work, what do i do?

Before installing them try:

What error are you getting. Because there is a commoin one which is fixed when a reboot has happened.

Unstalling the Old drivers. Reboot(dont worry u will boot correctly but display will be stuck at 1024x768) then try installing those drivers.

Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or sofware configuration. Please make sure you have the required hardware or software.

Yea it likes doing that. Just click on the driver setup icon again. It should go through the second time. If it doesn't, run the modder again. It should go through I got the same error you got with each successive desktop catalyst
post #28 of 62
it is still doing it.... does the modder install drivers? It goes to this ATI install screen what is it installing?

how do i know what catty version i have? when i try to check under drivers it gives me some long number, it doesnt say catty 4.7 or 4.9 anywhere
post #30 of 62
right click on your desktop, go to properties, settings, advanced, options and it'll say it.
It's installing the drivers silly :P Check Control Panel, Add Remove Programs, if you see ATI Driver there, then it is installed...granted that you had removed your previous drivers...

After reading though this thread I have to say, the easiest way to tell which driver you *just* installed is to look at the name of the file that you downloaded. I'm not exactly sure where to look in the driver options though, but the downloaded setup file will definately tell you.
Right click the NEW driver you just downloaded. Properties>Version
post #36 of 62
thats not helping me, i have noo idea if it installed correctly...
When you scroll up&down on this page.....is it smooth or jumpy? is that a word?

If it's smooth using the sidebar, not your mouse wheel. It's installed properly.
Did you uninstall the previous drivers? If you did, and then installed your new version, and are reading this at a resolution above "CRAPPY" then the driver worked right. Try to play a game or look at a picture, if you can set the screen to your desired settings, then the driver is functioning correctly.

ok guys, you know you can lookup driver information right? well whats the driver information for 4.9 does anyone know?

This is weird, I've gotten no fps difference from Ultra High to Medium! But in Ultra High the text looks worse...
