Reseller Reviews

Thread Starter
I response to what Habib (aka; beepster) started.

I have purchased Sager & other laptops. I did not purchase directly from Sager and did so through resellers like PCTorque.

I had never heard of PCTorque or this forum until the other day.

I spent a good amount of time on the phone today with Adam from PCTorque. He is genuine and really takes pride in helping his customers. It was a little awkward on my part when I called him because you see I am also a a systems integrator with an office in Massachusetts and an office in Cranston, RI. I was so impressed by his manner in which he treated me that I felt it is my duty to start this thread.

Anyone that is thinking of buying a cutting edge laptop should feel comfortable buying from PCTorque. It is not that the system is different than what you can get over at Powernotebooks.com It's the people that are going to be there for you when you have got a question. And you will have some. Adam seems to be a great guy with a passion for what he does. We both service different markets and specialize in different technologies. I am glad to have a local company to develop an alliance with. Also, this forum is a great example of their dedication to help all.

I asked Adam about this guy Habib, "Does he work for you?" Adam replied "No and he does not even own a Sager" With a resource like that for this forum we should all pitch in a couple of
bucks each, send it to Adam and put a deposit on an 8886 or a 5660 for him. Imagine the tech support then!

On a different note, I would like to CAUTION anyone who has considered buying anything from portablecomputer.com. They are another ODM type reseller like Powernotebooks. They do not deliver in a timely manner, they do not deliver what you ordered, For weeks they will tell you everything that you want to hear but do not do what they say. I have never delt with such a lying and deceiptfull company in my 11 years in business. I am still trying to get my $2,600.00 refund that I gave them on Nov 18th. BEWARE! a pretty website can be quite a different animal. The sales guy is a real charmer, has this knack for stringing you along for weeks. You have been warned.

My Advice is buy a laptop and a relationship from PCTorque.

On the same topic, DO NOT ORDER from nexthardwareshop.com i'm in the process of starting an online fraud complaint against this "store".
I really recommend going to resellerratings.com and checking before making a purchase. I didn't this time and it turned out to be a mess

Thanks for the nice writeup on PCTorque.com. Definitely will make me buy with confidence should I go that direction -- also really think highly of these forums here too. Really will help a laptop neophite like me get going started.

And for someone who doesn't even own a Sager, Habib himself really knows his stuff too. Always enjoy reading his comments as well.

Thanks for the review and for starting this thread! I hesitated to start one because I already say a lot on here, lol. Adam is truly a tribute to humanity in general. Yes, that sounds trite and banal, but it's true. Honesty, integrity, it's all there. I have never met a more generous and trusting/trustworthy man, and I say this with the highest level of conviction -- and guess what, I haven't met Adam in person yet. I have yet to have that honor. I have not dealt with powernotebooks, which is why I don't write much about them, but I always encourage everyone to bring their experiences here. Whether it's with the lappies themselves or with the sellers... Good, bad, in between, it's always good for others to have a frame of reference.

On another note, lol, I am flattered at your suggestion and am honored that I was even mentioned in a conversation :-) I try my best to help people out on here for the sole purpose of helping. I love sharing knowledge and learning, especially about computers :-) These forums are the first I've really seen and enjoyed... because I can help people and kinda get to know them at the same time. Everyone here has similar interest too :-) If anyone needs help with something, feel free to email me or PM me or whatever. Whenever I get the chance I'll help out.

Time for bed now though... Goodnight everyone!

Be sure not to confuse powernotebook.com and portablecomputer.com. They are 180 degrees of each other.

I have filed my "Report A Fraudulent or Unauthorized Transaction" forms with my bank. Against portablecomputer.com

So the list is starting like this:

1) PCTorque - (Best Service, Best $$'s, #1 satisfaction)

2) Sager - (Great Systems, A little more $$$ than PCTorque)

3) portablecomputer.com - (Stay away, Lie to your face)

4) nexthardwareshop.com - (Stay far away, Facing charges)

5) Powernotebooks.com - (Sager's #1 volume reseller)

Feel free to copy, paste & add to this list.

These companies need to know that the power of "word of mouth" will make make or break thier companies. Bad news spreads like wildfire. Got a match or some Fuel?

About the above; I was looking at Pro-Star, another Sager vendor. Interestingly, while feedback on USENET seems average for this vendor, the resellerratings reports a very low of 3.75, though there are only three feedback submissions so far.

mobileperipherals.com

I would like to add mobileperipherals.com . The price for my machine came within about 20$ of PCTorque, and I got free shipping because of a special during the Thanksgiving holiday. I wiretransferred on the Friday after Thanksgiving, was able to talk to salesrep Lynn via chat on their website to confirm that the order was placed, and the computer was on ups by monday at 2pm. At 8am on monday I emailed Lynn to change my shipping address, which I thought was kind of last minute, but since it had not been dropshipped yet it was done within 5 minutes. The computer arrived Friday before noon. That's the fastest turnaround for free ground shipping on a custom "anything" that I've ever seen, and the service was great, very good prices (I ended up about $125 less than powernotebooks.com, which was already fairly substantially lower than Sager's direct webfront) and ridiculously fast turnaround. It was actually in Houston the late afternoon on Thursday, but there was no way to go pick it up. Talk about feeling like it was Christmas Eve

so there's my vote for MobilePeripherals.com . Excellent reseller. and i find it kind of scary in a good way that i was able to get it all done without ever using the phone.
