LOL 2 min's after I emailed him he emailed me back and this is what he wrote
" Some upgrades will require the system to be sent to us for a resistor upgrade. This will allow the ATI 9700 to run at the higher clock speeds. So we are preparing logistically to provide this option and service to our customers."
I think this is good info...

I then asked him how will we know if we need the upgrade...
no reply yet, he works late, it's 8:17 FL time

UPDATE here is is reply
"We will work with them through our tech support to verify. If they have an updated revision, they will be able to buy the upgrade through the gearshop and install it themselves."

I hope that if i have to send my lappy back just for a resistor upgrade, they dont reformat my HD,,,,,sigh.... thats all they do everytime you send in your lappy, cause they reinstall the system OS and drivers and rerun "their" benchmarks and apps and if the system passes their benchmarks,, in their world, its fixed,,,,sigh...

When I send my laptop in, I pull the hard drive first. Unless the repair has something to do with software or the hard drive itself, this works great. This was AW's suggestion, after I told them I had 15 gigs of tournament maps that would be hard for me to backup. lol.

We are almost at the end of September and I see no news from AW nor have they made any announcements for upgrades... So on October 1 I will be posting the email and name of the individual at AW who started all this! I am not a happy camper...no 9700 and no definitive word on the 9800 or go6---!!!

Well , dont get too riled.. i saw someone post something about estrada talking to another poster about the 9700 upgrade and that ppl will need to send in their mobo for re-work, so ppl will have to arrange to send in their systems and that they "AW" are working on a priorty setup to get lappys sent in and reworked and returned on a fast turn around,, so even though we haven't heard any "official" news from AW, i'd give em just alittle more time, week or so, then time to email and see what they got for us...

I have been asked by a moderator to refrain from posting the email and making it public as it would violate rules. I am not happy about this and wish to express my deepest anger and disappointment with AW. I can try and be optimistic and keep hoping for the 9800 instead but let's face it...I have lost all faith in AW and am seeking to sell my laptop and taking my business elsewhere. So until I get approval from a moderator publicly to post the email I will refrain.

I can totally respect that notebook_gamer good show of restraint. If you feel the need to P.M. me the info I promise I will not tell anyone else except my friend who has an Area-51m. I will not post it on the net I would just email that person to remind him that we have not forgot about what we have coming. But if not I respect that as well just give him hell for me.

I wish I could give him hell but I honestly have given up the fight with AW...If you want to email him, I will PM his email address only to you, but first I will ask the mods if that is ok...

What happened between you and said AW employee should stay that way. Anyone wishing to speak with Alienware directly can call their sales or customer service phone numbers listed on the website.

Notebook_gamer,

I think I will give up as well. I am mad at myself for buying this 51m but what can you do. I will call Alienware myself on Monday and express my disappointment yet again with them. Thank you for what you have done the last 2 months.

Jeff

Hey N/G,
Maybe you should consider selling your laptop while it still has most of its resale value. Sounds like you are not happy with AW and your machine and like they say BS walks and action talks, or some such stupid old saying. But you know what I'm getting at here, life is too short to be unhappy with your laptop, get rid of it and get something that will make you smile, mate.
