Well I installed the 9700 with ease ran my first 3dmark and got 3381 3dmark05 1331 out of the box. With the NV5600 my 3dmark score was 2513 with over clocking.

I was encouraged by the news (back on the front page of this thread) however I will believe it when it happens. They may have said September and from what it sounds like, they have limited upgrade options now for the 9700, but it is more likely that it will be December-January for a full fledged upgrade solution (if ever). I am not holding my breath for a 9800 but would be pleasently suprised to get one. I would GLADLY pay for a motherboard upgrade that would extend the life of my laptop. Especially if there were other options associated with that... like a new P4 chip or an AMD 64 based option.

Upgrading is a sinch, I didn't even have to call them...

hmmmm.......... i was on the phone with an UK customer support today, and i recieved some strange news. my gpu (mr9600) was sent to them about 2 weeks ago and since they told me i should get the new one in 3-5 days and i´ve been waiting for close to 15 days now i decided to call them and hear what the ****s going on. well, since AW UK seems to not have that many tech supports i, as stated earlier, got to talk to a customer supportperson instead, and she told me that the mr9600 was unavailible and that i was going to get a 9700 instead. i politely told her that just 15 days ago a tech had told me that the 9700 was a no no no (as i have moborevision 4001), and she replied that the tech guys had given the green light for mobo4001 in combination with mr9700. i will only have to get the nevest bios before i install the card...
it will probably arrive on friday, so i will not know for sure until then but....

as far as i know you CAN upgrade your motherboard. i talked to some AW UK tech about it, and it sounded like it was possible but very expensive.

I think that it is like $300.00 to upgrade the MB in the US.

yeah, that may be correct. when i spoke to them they said $400-500, but i guess a mr9700 was included in that price.

What is the "Required Motherboard Modification" they talk about on the first one? Mine is a 40A5 so I will need it.

Change to the DC/DC controller system to up the power to the GPU a bit. At least thats what they told me on the phone after some prying into the issue.

So i wonder if the ALXm will be a clevo (sager=cheaper) machine, in which case everyone would be selling it, which seems to be the way that it is in this industry
