(regarding upgradeable graphics on the Area51m) - Page 11

Man, and thats the reason why I sold mine in the first place cause I thought they weren't going to upgrade those. Oh well, I still love my 7700
post #202 of 500
okay so are we going to have 2 send in our notebooks so that they can revise the mobo? as with the 9700?
Best Alienware news ever...if it's true. And even if it is, they darn well better not be charging X800 prices...

Good question. If I have to send it in, I'll pass at this point. My DT is no gaming rig and this is the only way I can kill the horde.

Maybe the agent was way off. Have you guys tried calling again and asking another agent.

The agent may have been mis-informed or mis-understood.

I asked the guys about how I can upgrade it. He didn't say anything about a mobo revision. He did mention, that as long as I have a tech support guys on the phone, I can upgrade it myself. Now, I am assuming that this means that the 9800 will work with our current motherboards... hopefully thats the case.

OMG this is the best news I've heard in a long time from AW.
Indeed, this is some very good news! Just hope European customers won't have to wait for ever to get it too

I think we should not all be jumping with joy until we get an official answer.

This one rep may be wrong.

Who is going to call up and ask?

Wasn't there a post with the e-mail of some AW person concerned with the previous vid upgrade? I can't find it.

I think your talking about Juan... maybe he can give us a definite answer. JUAN? JUAN? Please let us know... thanks
post #211 of 500
Well, he may or may not know. They might not let him talk or something.

This was the guy I was talking about:

Just called alienware, spoke with a Jose. He said that there is both a 9800 and a 6800 upgrade option coming out very soon. He was kind enough to set it up that I will recieve a phone call as soon as that option will become available. Looks like they are going to give us one last shot to make sure we stay bad ass!

God I hope I got enough credit open on my acct to buy it!
That is sweet. I'll have to tell my buddy who bought my 51m from me. You didn't get any prices did you?
This is great news and restores SOME of my faith in Alienware. I tried a 5700 -> 9700 upgrade with no success (lock ups, customer support was unable to resolve), so I had to eat the restocking fee, but I guess I'll try again if this turns out being true. The restocking thing was funny though, they promised a credit within 9 business days, after about 16 business days (I checked the tracking number to see when it arrived), I sent email and a few days later I got an email saying how pleased they were to inform me that a credit had been posted. Jeez, how difficult is this, and why should someone have to ping them with email to meet a simple deadline they had set (and not met, no emails to tell me they had recieved it, it was in processing, nothing). Anyway, hope this is true, and I don't have to eat another restocking fee.

Tom

Sorry Tate, went to bed at 2 am and then just got up like 5 min ago. I didn't get any prices because he wasn't sure. I would be we are atleast looking at 300+ dollars, probably more.

Now, Since I've had so many problems with AW getting my computer fixed, I think I'm going to ask and see if I can get some sort of significant discount with my upgrade. I also think I'm going to hold out for the 6800.
Oh i'l be calling tommrow to confirm this (since i need to call them anyways :-P)
