If so could you tell me when? Also do you know what card it may be? Many thanks. Mike: Dated 24/11/05 the reply i got is as follows though i'll remove the tech reps name as that seems to be what everyone else has done and i assume there's a reasonear Mike,
we are still in negotiation, but it looks like we can solve the problem in spring 2006 ...

With best regards
I hope this is of some interest to you guys/girls though they didn't really answer any of my questions directly. Have fun. Mike

P.S My system specs: P4 3.4/60Gig 7200Rpm/MR9700 128Mb(yes i was one of them too)/2Gig PC3200. 3D Mark 2005 (1975)
Wow, if this is true, that is good news. Unfortunatley, if this DOES happen, there will more then likley be a motherboard revision change required. I have heard many times in the past that they are working on something... but at this point, I will beleive it when I see it.

Re: Upgrades 766

I must admit i have heard things like this from Alienware before also in fact i have still got about 10 different Emails from a many different Rep's (all of which i have kept) saying that they have not given up on trying to find a solution for the 766 machines. I have even been happy to suggest that i wouldn't mind if there wasn't a solution but would just like an honest answer and even then they have still said that they are working on it. I can post these Emails if anyone's interested. The point being i wouldn't want to say that a solution will become available but i do believe that they probably are trying to find a way round any issues they currently have with this system. I wouldn't expect a major upgrade either i wouldn't think with the 766 being AGP that they'll be able to offer anything beyond the MR9800 though i might be wrong. Anyway enough rambling you seem to have a very similar setup to me so why is your 05 3DMark so low? What is the "Stock" would i be right to assume Non-OC'd? My 05Mark is now 2020 and incase you wondered what driver i'm using it is the omega 5.11. Have fun all!

Hey MickyBlue,

Thanks for the info. Quick question: are any of these e-mails from Alienware Reps recent? Just wondering if they are officially still working on this.

Other than my first post which contains the email from the 24.11.05 the others are not that resent: 04/10/05, 28/09/05, 17/09/05, 06/06/05 and earlier as you can see i have been inquiring on a regular basis some of them haven't been too forthcoming with information but others have been ok but so far nothing cast iron. I assume everybody knows that they can now be put on a mailing list about this subject now due to the amount of interest if you're not already on it then i would drop them a line and ask to be put on it.

I didn't know about the e-mail list. How do you sign up?

I wasnt aware of a 'list'. But it won't hurt to look into it.

Mike is right it's true I'm also in this "upgrade" list Our waiting is over at 2006...

I generally don't try to be pessimistic, but "I'll believe it when I see it". So far, this is a typical Alienware response to a very "tired" issue. I too have emailed Alienware on several occasions and have received several different responses. All of which are sprinkled with hope and noncommital optimism.

I'll gladly retract this statement if Alienware surprises us all and offers a legitimate compromise. I sincerely want an amicable relationship with Alienware concerning this issue, but I cant help but feel as if I'm being strung along.

Could someone actually tell us how to get on that list???

Hi Tipsy
I'm pretty sure that if you email them they'll probably put you on the list but i actually phoned them then they sent me an email to confirm. I still stand by what i said before though everyone as much as they have said there should be a solution by spring 2006 its not been offcially confirmed so don't get your hopes up too much folks. Obviously it would be great if they do but who knows. Mike

P.S heres the email:28/09.05

Dear Michael,

As soon as a solution or alternative offer is available we will be in contact with you. Your name has been added to our notify list as soon as further information becomes available.

Regards,

We will then print out this list on our laser printer and procede to wipe our asses with it.

Just kidding. Sorry I couldn't resist.

I wish all of you the best in getting a newer gfx card in your trusty old 5500's. Mine now belongs to my sis and she could care less about gfx.

By the way, great news for all of you with Quake 4 performance issues:
id just released a new patch that GUARANTEES a 25% increase in performance with HT processors! www.idsoftware.com
Its on first article on the page. I've already tried on my sister's rig and it really works. Very playable at 1024x768 high quality, shadows ON, with a mr9600!

Don't understand. But if you're referring to id's mention of another, better patch at the beginning of the year, yeah, I'd wait for that one.

Ok folks i'm still in contact with Alienware and have asked a few more questions to which one of th responses may prove interesting "This probably sounds like a rather stupid question but what sort of issues are to be resolved is it a technical problem with prodution (heat/space/power) or is iit a business problem as the costs would surely be passed on to the consumer anyway. Sorry for the constant questions i hope you appreciate that i made this purchase over 18 months ago with the purpose of being able to upgrade to save a little money i didn't expect endless upgrades as i know this would be impossible but would have liked to have
seen one upgrade. Many thanks for any information you're allowed to give me. Mike" That was my question by the way this was there response "its actually a supply problem. Accross the board there is a shortage of agp parts available. Its because all new systems and motherboards are being released now with PCI Express technology. Thats where the problem lies. Nvidia are looking to release the 7800 card in AGP which is a start but apart from that there is not many manufacturers still supplying AGP parts.

I hope this helpful." As you can all see i was really interested to know what these negotiations were about as thats all i ever got told and that was there response. I hope you all find this of interest but please bear in mind that nothing has been promised its just a more detailed response than i would normally receive and i thought you guys/girls would find it interesting. Take it easy everybody for i must get back to annoying Alienware with more questions. Mike

Area 51m nVidia Go 5700 module

Hi guys,

I've followed this thread for ages and been really helped by the info (and the support/sympathetic rants about alienware. I finally managed to get my hands on a replacement card for my area 51m and it now works !!

I managed to get a spare card from Uniwill just in case and now, in good internet tradition, I'm flogging it on ebay.

Don't know if I'm allowed to post this here so mods, if not, feel free to take it down and sorry and all that. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who still needs to get their lappy up and running.

Just try a search for go 5700 and it should turn up.

Cheers,

Adam
