I managed to get a spare card from Uniwill just in case and now, in good internet tradition, I'm flogging it on ebay.

Don't know if I'm allowed to post this here so mods, if not, feel free to take it down and sorry and all that. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who still needs to get their lappy up and running.

Just try a search for go 5700 and it should turn up.

ATI card up for auction

Hey guys,

Haven't been by the forums in a loooong while (since I got a desktop), but just I thought I'd let you know I put the ATI card from my Area 51m up on ebay last night. Think some of you guys might still be looking for one, so thought I'd give you a heads up. PM me if you are interested or have questions.

And as always, "judos" to Craig...

Hey guys,

I run a site about MXM, the upgradeable cid card in the 5500 and 5700. I should have some new gen cards relatively soon, but I thought I'd share this already

Cheers,

ummmm this thread is in reference to the pre-mxm version of the m5500 which was the m5500/766 model
post #488 of 500
I remember when this thread started, it completely stopped a huge group of people from sueing alienware. Everyone was like, I told you so! about the 9800m .. and it's still not out lol.

Soooo I havent the time right now to read 33 pages of postings, so Ill just ask this and hope someone is kindhearted and will answer...

I have a year old (to the exact date as of three days ago) 51m-7700, with a go6800 card...Im starting to find that it is not working out for the latest and greatest. Paired with my 2.5 gigs of memory, it just is not kicking it enough. I'd like to know if I have any options at all for upgrading? My dream would be to upgrade to the go7800 (which should last me a few years), but I am aware I would most likely need to get a new motherboard.

So...what options do I have?
None right now

AFAIK, thet are not for sale right now. I should be getting some from my supplier though. Not sure when, but it should be before the summer.

what you should be doing is calling AW and asking them about it....
AW won't give you the time of day if your warranty is expired. Or...rather Alienware wouldn't give me the time of day the day after my warranty expired, so I doubt that would be your best option.

From what I understand your 7700 is in a better shape than the m5500/766 model (such as mine), whose nonexistant "upgradeable video cards" are what this post is referencing. I could be wrong, however.
Yeah, well AW has, and probably will continue to just say "i sorry, but basikalee der ez no updaet that wull be available to your sisteem model any tiem een de futer."

So I'm basically on my own here, or so it seems.

I have a 7700 with a 6800 ultra, is it upgradeble to a 7800 gtx? Also, can I upgrade my LCD(XGA) to a clearview(WUXGA) one? I sent emails to alienware, but no reply. I can't call them coz I'm from the Philippines. Can't ask my aunt who knows nothing but computers to do that. So, I'm asking the very knowledgeable guys here.
yes you can upgrade the gpu but you will have to upgrade the screen by yourself, and they also cost like 500 for the monitor and 350 for the 7800 gtx so you upgrade wil be like 850 +tax and shipping
post #497 of 500
really? Thank you for the information boom, so does those prices include the so called discount?(Discount on upgrades if you're still under warranty) hhmmm.. I'll be the one installing the 7800 gtx right? uhm.. what do you mean that I have to upgrade the screen myself? Alienware would send the new screen? or do I have to buy a non alienware LCD?
just like to chime in, as usual and say, where the hell is my 9800m? lol
post #499 of 500
And to add to laughterkillsme, how the hell did this thread get hijacked?

And where is my 9800m?

any news on this from any front?

Looks to me like we will never getout promised or hinted at "upgrades" for these notebooks.

Oh, well.
