I was told it would be available sometime in Sept...

PS: I doubt we will see the 9700 256...hopefully the 9800 256 down the line though!

I don't know.....!!!
I'm more on the ... "I'll believe it when I see it" band wagon.
I've heard PR before, but as with any company...not only AW, I'll stay reserved until I get my grubby little hands on it. Got to have that touchy feely thing going.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you...but at least now they have released some info and have semi committed to something...I just hope they weren't blowing smoke up my a$$...that could prove to be a very very bad move for Alienware...but the more I think about it...I already bought an Area-51m so they already have my money...why would they go out of their way to contact me if only to BS me...it wouldn't make sense...why not just ignore an upset person who already gave them business...unless they fear bad PR that much...which I highly doubt!

so whats alll this mean???

no change to the current n766 model??

wait, does this mean:

1. aw not leaving uniwil??
2. the current n766 model can't be change but just newer mobo revisions and mobo supports pci-e???
3. price goes up after??
4. the current n766 model will be aw51m version 3.0/2.5 with newer things??

aw 51m specs to buy in dec. 2004/jan 2005

aw 51m version 3.0

current n766 model
pentium 4 3.2ghz prescott with 1mb cache, 1066 mhz fsb
60gb 7200rpm hard drive
mobility radeon 9700 w/ 128/256mb or mobility radeon 9800

I was told as of now they have no plans to leave uniwill but they will be expanding their notebook line to include other systems such as the ALXm which means that they will be using other manufacturers outside of uniwill such as compal for the new Aurora 64m...BUT as with everything in the computer industry anything can change overnight. One thing my contact stressed to me is that Alienware really makes it a top priority to satisfy their customers as well as to retain their customers...so let's see what they pull off!

why isn't this a sticky?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllright already!

Not to be too much of a sceptic but I'd say the ALX-m will be just a factory over clocked laptop with slightly improved cooling (maybe a larger case to house it). I really can’t see a liquid cooling system being used...remember we are talking about a laptop here and therefore it should be portable or at least transportable ala Dells XPS and 9100. Maybe it'll have 2 int. hdd as a standard with 2 GB ram...but other then that I cant see it offering the same improvements the ALX desktop offers over its vanilla counter parts.

NEW X-BRIGHT SCREENS ON THE AREA 51 NOTEBOOK. I was told that Alienware is about to release an X-Bright type screen on the Area 51 notebooks. Does anybody know when they are going to release them ?

I haven't heard anything about this...just another rumor probably...they need to first release the 9700 upgrade and work on the 9800 before worrying about the other components!

PS: I can call sometime next week my contact and see what he says...if anybody wants me too...

Heh, I want you to

On the other hand all I really want is the 9700. After that, I'll probably get a new laptop next year anyway (I tend to get a new PC and a new laptop every other year).
