cl56 and doom3 - Page 3

Are you guys running the demo twice for each setting? I thought I remember people were comparing the benchmarks that way so the demo is loaded onto the cache. I did the demo twice, and these are the scores I got on the 2nd run (and is very surprising). I'm OC'd during game play at 450/250, latest Omega drivers with vsync turned off in the control panel.

800x600, Ultra High, HiQ, shadows off, vsync off, no AA: 57.xFPS (!!!!!!)
800x600, Ultra High, HiQ, shadows off, vysnc off, 2xAA: 53.xFPS
800x600, Ultra High, HiQ, shadows on, vsynco off, no AA: 43.xFPS

1024x768, High, HiQ, shadows off, vsync off, no AA: 38.xFPS
1024x768, Medium, HiQ, shadows on, vsync off, no AA: 36.xFPS

It looks like for me, resolution has way more of a difference than the quality settings. I didn't run it without tweaks, but maybe I should, just to get a baseline.

I should note that on the first runs, it's NOT playable at Ultra settings at 800x600. Only during the second time when timedemo runs. I mean the game STOPS at parts in the first run. I'll have to check out more extensive game play to see how it does through regular playing.

Right now I'm running 4.7 with the INF mod. I tried 4.9 on my desktop, there is zero speedup since I don't have an X800 there. I doubt it'd improve things on the laptop either.

Maybe it's because you guys are overclocking and have shadows off? I'd never DREAM of turning shadows off, they're a big part of what makes DooM 3 what it is. As for overclocking, considering the CL56 has absolutely NO cooling on the GPU, I'd be hesitant.

I'm running stock here... I don't want to do any of the tweaks as most or all of them degrade visual quality.

OK I've found a new problem... Just occured to me today.

I turn shadows on, as I'd rather play with shadows on as well and just run lower quality... But I turn it on, apply changes, exit game, and re-enter. Shadows are off again! Any ideas? Something I can change in the config file?

thats weird... what drivers are you using? I just use some catalyst 4.7 drivers I modded and they work fine with everything so far.

only issue I have with these drivers was graphic corruption coming back from sleep mode.... but only when limewire was on the screen. Thats it, only that one program. hitting "refresh" on the desktop right lcick menu solves that though

open up ur doomconfig.cfg file w/ notepad. then find the line that says seta r_shadows "0" and change the 0 to 1. if that doesnt work then create a file called autoexec.cfg and pu in the line seta r_shadows "1"

Nevermind, found my problem. I made an autoexec config file and shadows were disabled in there. Got shadows back on and will try out the timedemos again later.
