Thread Starter
I can't get my CPU to run greater than 600mhz on my D600 even if I set my speedswitchxp to maximum performance.

Help!!

Thanks.

Have you reinstalled XP without installing the Notebook System Software? The updated processor driver is needed to ensure correct operation of the Speedstep features on the P-M.

How can I tell if I've installed the correct processor drivers?

Under Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->Processors->Intel Pentium M->Driver->Driver Details you should see either gv3.sys or intelppm.sys. gv3.sys is from the Notebook System Software. In XP SP2 RC2 gv3.sys has been replaced by intelppm.sys.

What driver (and version) is your showing?

Hi, Im experiencing a similar problem with my laptop. My driver does read intelppm.sys...is this what it should be. I have tried all power options and even 4 people at dell tech support with no sucess

Any suggestions?

Still stuck at 600MHz

My BIOS is enabled. I am using 2 programs to monitor my CPU speed. One is called CPUZ and the other is SpeedstepXP. Both read 600MHz. NOTHING WORKS!!! PLEASE HELP. I feel like I have a fossile for a computer, but it should be screaming fast Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton,

Ben

Observe the processor speed as you perform processor intensive task (ones that put a load on the processor). Does it go up higher than 600mhz?

Do you have any other processor management software running such as RMClock?

You also can try installing this fix:

Hey that is a good idea. I have tried running half life 2, then hitting the windows key to get to the desktop where my cpuZ and speedstepXP software both identify the processor to be at 600MHz. I have already installed that fix. Thanks so much for your ideas though. In the mean time i will try this RMClock, but let me know if there is anything else you can think of. Thanks Mich43L!!!

If your mobo does not recognize your power supply it will bring the clock speed to 600MHz. Will you computer charge your battery? Maybe try another power supply.

To check it, go in setup (F2 on power up) and look on the battery page using Alt-P, you will see on the top of the screen if your power supply is properly detected.
