Ok, in an attempt to see if my touchpad software would come back when i unplugged the mouse (which it didn't, alas), I noticed that a mouse is still listed in my hardware manager, and it is said to be plugged into a PS/2 port, which this computer doesn't even have! Also, when the mouse *is* plugged in (to USB, of course), there are two mice listed, though they seem to be the same type of thing. But no touchpad. But the touchpad drivers are still listed in my add/remove programs, so should I uninstall and reinstall them, or just reinstall them? Or uninstall the mouse? I'm confused. Hopefully I can get both the mouse and touchpad to work simultaneously.
