I'd like to know. if anyone's tried to used the 5670 or 8886 for 3D/work apps...MAYA, Autocad I'd really like to get some info or benchmarks on this side of the Sager's performance, because I usually need to bring my job to site, and my desktop is not exactly portable. The Dell laptops are simply not good enough.......Alienware's seem to fit the bill.........that is, til my partner directed me to this site.

I run MAYA. IT runs very well but I don't know what you are looking for regarding benchmarks. I'm not very good with MAYA but I got a copy because my brother uses it for school.

I've asked a similiar question and didn't get any replies... Maybe this thread will get some more info? I have to run AutoCad, and have been using low budget 3D Programs for awhile, plan on moving up to the big ones in the coming years...

I use Max and Maya, as well as Combustion on the 5670. Its what I bought it for. What kind of benchmarks would you guys want?

I am currently using a P4 2.66 with a gig and a half of memory and a recently updated GVX 420 card. I use it primarily for Autocad and VIZ, but will also be doing 3D StudioMax and Maya, which I am taking courses for. They all work well on our desktops, anyway, we are scheduled for hardware upgrades in 3 months plus.....laptops.
The first time we used laptops for presentations they performed badly(so bad, that they were relegated to a.v.i./powerpoint presentation). Then, about a month ago my boss sees a laptop running a 3DMark graphics benchmarking software. So now were going to go mobile.
My question, how well does a souped-up Sager fare in 3D modelling, OpenGL transformation, lighting calculations. Has anybody tested it with Autocad or Viz and alike, and how does it fare with other laptops?
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the input guys!

In my opinion that laptops do an amazing job in max. Although the ATI card isn't the best at OpenGL (works well with Direct3d) But it has so far done everything I have needed it to. I work in 3ds Max on a daily basis. I am sure there is someone else in this forum who could explain the ATI's pros and cons in OpenGL and Direct 3d better than I could though.
