Philips vs. Warrantech waranty? - Page 2

Now how would I get the Phillips added on if I did not buy it at purchase?
If you bought the unit from PC Torque, simply email them and accomplish the "order". If not, I think that you can email Sager, as long as it wss a Sager unit - but you'd need to check on this as it is just my opinion.

not an ad for DL... but they got on-site service for sagers... for all of NA
being in Canada, that makes me very tempted

Now I was planning on waiting till the 1yr warranty was already up. Do you think that will work still?
it's quite a bit more to add it later than to get it at the beginning tho...
if u know u gonna want/need it... probably better to get it when getting lappy

You will have to do it between 10 and 11 months or you are SOL.

What is "DL" and "NA - North America??"?
DL = place that sells discounted lappies
NA = North America
Sure but their website says no international orders right on the bottom of the front page.

see here (bottom of page): http://www.discountlaptops.com/index..._type=shipping

if in doubt... send them an email... i'm sure they do canada... just not overseas

Hmm I'm not getting something from that web page you posted. They say :
1) ...However, not all repairs can be performed on-site (i.e. motherboard or screen replacements.) In this case, a Ground service call tag will be issued to the customer. This service eliminates any out of pocket expenses to the end user.

2) On-site Extended Warranty Details ... Covers the return shipping back to the customer from DiscountLaptops.com repair facility. We can arrange for the item to be picked up from the customer for an additional nominal charge.

So do they pay for shipping to them.. ? I am confused. Sounds like a pretty good deal though if they pay shipping both ways. I wonder what's the best extended warranty for Sagers from any merchant.

dunno... just posting some info that i found...
again... best way to get an answer is to ask them!!!

i myself is also trying to get to the bottom of this... in my search of warrantable 3790 in Canada

pctorque is great... just looking for alternatives

Well, All this sh*t is scary. I'm looking for my first non-named brand purchase (because none of the big names have a 15.4" WSXGA+ Dothan with a MR9700). I was looking at the 3790 but thought it was ugly so I was going to wait a bit and seen if anyone else comes up with another WSXGA+. Now the problem is that it seems all the ODM retailers are offering extended warranty by Philips or Warrantech and if both of them use MicroMedic, you are totally scr*wed if your machine require service after the first year. Looks like it back to named brand for me.

well... in two emails over the last week... guy at DL told me no shipping both ways...
this is what he said in the latest email:

"Correct, not all repairs can be handled by an on-site technician. In these cases, Discountlaptops.com will pay for the notebook to be shipped to ou repair facility in Tennassee. You will not have to pay any shipping charges."

all this talk about warranties...and i'm wondering how many people actually get an extended warranty?

i'm new to sager and looking intently at making the 3790 my next purchase. and the fact that makes me comfortable going to a smaller name brand is the fact that i see articles talking about sager's reliability. so i wonder if i need to really get an extended warranty...
it's all about piece of mind... think about it this way
very rarely is there fire and flood... but almost everyone's got fire and flood insurance for their house

lappy not worth as much as a house... but same idea
post #37 of 38
And then there's life insurance..... Something you buy; however, can never actually collect.

I always gets a 3 yr warranty with my laptops althought I rarely keep one for more than 18 months. Having a extended warranty not only let you set a higher asking price when you sell it, It's makes it much easier to sell since the new buyer can have peace of mind for another year or more.
