Re: IR and PC slots

this is quite possibly a stupid newbie question but then again, I am a semi-newbie concerning notebooks. my question is: what the uses of the Infrared Transceiver and PC slots on the Sager 8887, 5670, and other models? I warned you this was a stupid question!
The best use I've found is for Hot Sync'ing my Palm Tungsten-T with my desktop.
I've sent files to my wife's compaq, too, but it's pretty slow. When there's another infrared device nearby, you'll hear a funky little sound and then an icon appears on the desktop (and in the system tray) that allows transfering files to the other system.
When you open it up, you can browse to the file(s) you want to send, click send, and after a few seconds, the receiving computer pops up a message box asking if they want to accept the files (and where to save them).
It's pretty entertaining for oh, about ONE time. Then it's SLOW and BORING.
Again, syncing a PDA is about the only useful thing I can think of (and it's better than BlueTooth, as it's 4x faster); however, if you have a LOT to sync, go USB 1.1 (as that is 3x faster than IR, and 12x faster than BT)
