i would not remove ctf.. and now i found something to support that statement:

"Ctfmon.exe monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies."

If you don't have any of those things, then you don't need it, do you? <--- not a question

I've removed it under both Office XP and Office 2003 without any problems. Microsoft's statement in that support article "removing the Ctfmon.exe might cause problematic behavior in your Office XP programs, so removing it is not recommended" is poo.

Yeah what is up with bootvis???? It seems like everytime I restart windows it goes up a couple bars... EX: Right after running bootvis it only had it run 3 bars, then the next restart was 5 then 8 and the last time was 10...

How do I keep it the same at either 3 or 5??? Is there somewhere in bootvis to have it always be optimized or something??? What am I missing???

i am guessing that it has to do with the prefetch cache rather than bootvis. there is a change you need to make to the registry to disable prefetch - sorry, but i can't remember what it is. try clearing the prefetch folder again and see if it speeds up again.

Well that seemed to do the trick... I just deleted everything in that prefetch folder, and whala back down to 3.5 bars across... Now I just have to figure out how to disable that... I was wondering, will it effect anything if and when I disable it???

No.

Your frequently-used programs just might not load as fast.

Personally, I'd take a slow boot-up time and faster-loading programs. But that's cause I only reboot every few days and am constantly opening and closing the same proggies.

What is all that junk in the prefetch folder?
i dunno, but i just wish i never ran bootvis, because now i'm getting 10 bars as opposed to the 5 bars - and it was 5 with a full prefetch folder.

bache - thanks, that explains why it still pops up.

Maybe you can just remove bootvis, and it will go back to how it was??? Just open the installer app, and then you can choose to remove bootvis or repair bootvis...

Not unless you made a backup or system restore point before running it.

run bootvis again. i bet it'll go down

how a DELL technician would solve this problem:

go to start

run

msconfig

click on the startup tab

click disable all

restart the computer...
