Well infasct if you look around and search (some old posts)
people came to the conclusion europe is better.

And iv had gr8 support from the people i have delt with. What problems have you been experincing which seems bad support.

My problems with dell : They built alot of my laptops incorrectly. And never answer emails.

Dell XPS: $2,759, Alienware Area51m: $3,196.00... you need to pay for the much better case dude.

3.4Ghz, 1024MB RAM, mR9700, internal wireless card, XP Pro, remote, 60GB Hard Drive at 7200RPM , Creative Audigy 2NX External USB, 4x2x8x DVD+/-RW / 16x10x24x CD-RW

Actually I am not a dude haha, but aside from that I was thinking 9100 instead of XPS. Main difference is the 3.4 on the XPS instead of 3.2. Before the new 9800 came out I could get one for $2000 and now its around $2200-$2300. The case is just a case to me and its no big deal. A case isn't worth the extra $$ when eventually you will get a new one. I don't run around to lans all that much so I don't need to show off or something. My laptop could be in a card board box for all I care. I do sometimes go to lans, but I go with friends and we don't go to show off our PCs. Yes the aluminum is good for durability and such, but I have a Dell now and its fine. However, the XPS and 9100 are too thick for my taste, so I won't be getting one of those. BTW I am not knocking AW, I've never owned one so I can't judge, but for the money that I would spend they are to much for what I can get elsewhere is my point. If I had alot of money to blow then I would get one, but when I go hmmmm $1000 what could I do with that, that is like 2/3's of the price of my desktop I want to build.............I need to stop editing this post

You just contradicted yourself. You said looks don't matter then later on you said that the XPS is too thick for your taste. Which is it?
To thick as in comfort for being able to type on the keyboard, other wise I wouldn't care. 2+ inches thick make it where your wrist is bent the whole time and can make it hurt fast. External keyboard is fine, but sort of defeats the point of a laptop. Wasn't contradiction, I just didn't finish my thought. Sort of happens when you don't get alot of sleep. Got it? haha.

Honestly I would've purchased the 9100 by now if it wasn't so thick and I really want an AMD now, which the 9100 can't provide.

Ok, now with the AW vs. Dell. I currently own an I9100 you can see the specs in my sig. The main reason i chose dell was the price, I shure as hell couldn't afford an Alienware. So what it's thick, so what if it weighs almost 10lbs., so what if it is ugly in your eyes. Frankly I don't care, I have wonderful tech support if anything breaks i can chat or call and they will send me a replacement part in 2-3 days. Performance wise it kicks ass, sure beats my old p3 700. From what I have seen your AW notebooks are thin and that means wimpy cooling. In my 9100 I have 3 fans two of the are almost as tall as the laptop. I have seen the puny fans for the alienware vid card it is close to the same size of my friends 8500 vid card fan. One of the main reasons for bland plastics and no custom design options is the fact that dell will be able to send out a part it has instock and they are confident that it will fit and it will be the same color as was there before. You would have to wait for someone to paint it and even then the two batches might not match. Also referring to the upradeable video card module, oooh wow i have to take out 12 screws to have my vid card removed. I can have that done in under 2 min. If you want to pay extra for something that looks cool, go for it. If you want something that performs and you don't care what it looks like (which is where I stand) then go with dell.

I knew it was only a matter of time till the it started...

Play nice now.

I agree with you about fan issue BUT. AW have gone with the more direct way to remove heat. the area51 is kitted out with seriouse heatsinks. And im my expericne heatsinks are far supriror to fans as they remove the heat without creating heat. and IMO they move it faster.

Must be me with bogus Dell support lol
yeah but if you don't have something moving the air around the heatsink it won't do much good.
Hi,

Yah and u can feel the laptop blasting the heat out by the heat sinks. IMO in such a small place they have done VERY well in the heat problem. Shame theres no way of showing this feature but there is a good blow from the exhaust when you consider where the fans r and there size.

(that fact the heatsink ends the other end of the major fan does impress.

OH NO, FANBOY WAR BASED MOSTLY ON NOTHING. heh.
What you talking about?,

I actually like both AW and Dell, I was just trying to explain to answer is question. on how it deals with the heat issue. dont try and stir ppl talking into an arguement.

XPS has ATI 9800, Dual Channel memory. Is the Alienware weight on the comparison without battery, but the XPS with? I believe it is. Does dual channel memory make a significant difference?
DELL :
Weight: Starting at approximately 9.06 lbs. (4.11 kg) - Weight shown is with 15.4" display, CDRW/DVD drive and 12-cell battery.1

AW : Is without the battery. and i think its 7lbs

Ah yes Brain, from experience, I would concur.

BTW, when I went through the deal with mine, the Support Tech had the wrong specs, And I had to spend a great deal of time to convince him of this fact. So you may be screwed before you even start. I know mine had one floating around in it when it went back. I sure didn't want a new laptop with a floating screw in the case.

Actually Dual Channe memory is so overhyped now and days with the more powerful processors.

Here's an article

http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=480

The point of all this isn’t to point fingers or level blame on Intel or AMD for “deceiving” buyers (especially at this juncture), its to shed light on how a simple statistic can become a marketing force capable of justifying vast premiums for products that offer only minimally more performance than their lower-priced cousins. It’s a high-tech version of the Emperor’s New Clothes, a game of one-upmanship where neither side is willing to admit how far from reality the game has gotten. Why did Intel focus on memory bandwidth? Because it was a big number they could tout. Why did AMD focus on dual-channel configurations? Because Intel had dual-channel configurations. And everyone (even the people for whom it couldn’t possibly matter) bought into it, because we learned somewhere along the way that two is better than one.

ahh,

but 3 is better than 2
