Has anyone had experience with Pavilion and Compaq? I had experience with a Pavilion and absolutly loved it. But I herd good things about a Compaq, What do you experts reccomend?

I had a horrible experience with a Pavilion. My motherboard died 2 weeks after my warranty expired. Then having to make calls to India for customer service was like me having a conversation with a brick wall. After 5 months of sending it back and fourth and having them fix the wrong things and breaking things, like 2 power adapters and my lcd, I could care less about HP. Once I got it back in working condition, I sold that POS. I have so much hate towards them, words can't express it. But, that's just my experience. Have fun

As someone who spent much time as a technician fixing desktops and laptops. Stay away from anythign HP/Compaq. Stay far far away.

I've had a HP nx7010 for a month and I can say that I absolutely love it! It is just excellent. And it is the same as the Compaq x1000.

I totally agree with you. Nothing good can come from them, and if it does...you're damn lucky.

Well, I have had none of these problems.

If I were you, I'd find some wood to knock on

HP's business desktops are pretty darn good though. Some of the most trouble free OEM machines we ever bought at my last job. Definitely better than the Dells.

Never had an HP/Paq but was damn close to ordering the R3000t (didnt..see sig). I heard way too many horror stories from my friends who have hp/paq stuff. The only things in my house marked HP are (or rather is) the Printer(s). One of them died (made in May 2000) just over a month ago without any signs of anything. (the other one was made in late 01...expecting funeral soon). My 1/2 bro has 2 HP Pavillion lappies and he likes them (one has a P4-m, the other Centrino), havent had any major issues with them though and he runs equations through them that take 10 or so hours to do, that is a lot of number crunching (he is a Chemistry Ph.D). I hate the ugliness of HP personaly. I had 1 experience with the HP tech support, even after giving them the part and model #, they still had NO CLUE WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT! (hpna usb adapter that was made for a reletivly short time in 2000-2001) let them go to hell (the guy from the iPaq pocketpc department seemed nice though). Question? why was i transfered to the pocket pc department if i was calling about a networking solution? Anyway, 2 hours later, i has nowhere closer to solving my problem. I'd look around some more, don't be a fool.

Not sure if this is gonna get me in trouble... but I had a compaq presario laptop I was trying to find a replacement part for- clients, not mine (god no) and I tripped over this site...

http://www.compaqsucks.com/

LOL

I personally refuse to resell or endorse any brand name that doesnt cut it. Otherwise thier bad engineering will make ME look bad. Well, needless to say, I dont recommend anything HP, compaq, or d-link. And boy do I hate d-link. There isnt cheaper crap on the market- they are truly the yugo of network appliances.

Again, this is my opinion, take it as you will. But saving a few hundred on a piece of hardware, be it desktop or laptop, wont feel so good when you have to RMA a hard drive that lived for one month, really.

Examples- because without examples I am just a ranting loon- last HP I saw was brand new. The hard drive was literally flopping around inside the case, it wasnt mounted to anything. Compaq- the CPU fan was a inty piece of junk, burned out in 3 months. 10$ fan later, and the system was back up. These are new systems I get called out to look at. Not everyone has these problems, just the people that I see. Again, take it as you will.

I had a compaq presario 1600 series about 4-5 years ago with a K6-2 CPU and it ran soooooooo hot you don't even know. And because of the huge fan it had, the whole thing vibrated crazily. Their new cases are probably much better now, but man, that thing was pretty crappy.

I ordered a compaq r3000t for my son, he's had it a month and absolutely loves it. It's lightining fast on his games, great graphics, and the upgrade to a bright screen is awesome! I liked it so much, that I just ordered another one for myself. The student discount, rebates, and coupon, makes it a great value.

that is all true, it is a good bang-for-the-buck system but isn't the greatest for game, "READ MY LIPS: 4200rpm hd and M10 gfx" but this thread is to discuss long-term quality, if it doesn't crap out in a year, feel free to get back to us.

"READ MY LIPS" We upgraded to the 5400rpm and the 1 512 ram, then added 1 512 ourselves. I never said it was the BEST for gaming, I don't believe that was the question asked. I only stated it was great for gaming, which it is. I've had my compaq desktop for 5 yrs now without a glich. The notebook is built very solid, and we also opted for the great warranty below for $299. One of the best I've seen out there. They also accept coupons on top of the discounted student rate. The discounted student rate saved $100, with a $100 coupon, $75 cash back on fat wallet, and $100 rebate. BEAT THAT!!

My roomate has a Compaq Presario Desktop he bought last August for school and he it has been a great Desktop as expected. Only problem is the CD-RW Drive died though or atleast malufunctioned and he simply put a new one in for like $20. So nothing major. So I don't see much of a problem with them.

A note about customer service. I just received my compaq r3000t today, after ordering one for my son and liking it so much. Everything was great except I noticed light leakage at the bottom which my sons did not have (his was perfect). I called tech support and was on hold less than a minute! He had me try something on the bios screen, which didn't work. Then gave me an RMA number, told me they would replace the screen and that Fed Ex would be here to pick it tomorrow between 12-2. They also said it would be back in my hands within 5 days. Great customer service so far, will let you know the outcome.

i have a presario 2700T laptop. it worked great for about 2 years, then something on the motherboard fried. at least it did better than my dell which arrived broken twice and with the wrong screen once.

i'll probably end up getting an compaq x1000 or hp rt3000 since it's the cheapest PentiumM/WUXGA laptop i've seen.

I had a Compaq Presario 2500, graphics processing is not very good, many games won't play or will crash. It is fine for other purposes though. I much prefer the Ferrari 3200.

Wow great Customer Service from HP!! They issued me an RMA number 8/11 and Fed Ex picked up my notebook yesterday. Just received an email they received my notebook and are replacing the screen today. I will have my laptop back Monday!
