Has anyone had experience with Pavilion and Compaq? - Page 2

I have a Zx5190us model, and I love it. Your going to find bad apples with everything, and thats just the facts. My computer has been wonderful and I would buy an hp notebook again. Also, I have had it for about 5 months. I've also had technicians that have told me that HP is better than dell in notebooks, so it goes both ways.

HP, DV 1000 Series..

I still have my Compaq Armada from 1997.. Works fine, but there's no way to upgrade the board in it... 1585 Series.. Too Slow...

Anyway, I researched the A Series sony's for Intel. A-190, A-290. $3,000, Also spent the same amount of time, using the HP DV 1000.

Budget, weight, performance, looks, benchmarks, etc..............

Budget wins..........But, HP, DV 1000 @ around $1,000, is the best thing to hit HP's notebook line in years...... This is the launch of HP'S entertainment style.. Don't take my word for this machine? Look at all the ink, forums, pc magazines, and now T.V. ads for the notebook...............

O.K. Start Grilling!

I like HP better than Compaq. HP is a little bit more expensive BUT the style and quality seems to match the price. I have a HP Pavilion Notebook zt3340us (widescreen), HP PSC 1315 (printer), HP Pavilion 8380 Desktop and my boyfriend/roommate just got a HP Compaq Evo nx9010 - desktop replacement...bigger, a little heavier and faster...I like mine more. HP all the way.

I don't like Dell, or Gateway. Never have, never will.

Both are made by the same company..So the quality is comparable. I have a Compaq R3000Z and it has worked perfectly for the past 5 months. No problems at all. Its a little bit heavy but allround a good DTR.

HP/Compaq is the way to go..

I have a Sager, Toshiba, and HP laptop currently. Have had IBM and Compaq as well. I had some bad luck with the Compaq before the merger. My two cents - The components and even the build for lappy's these days comes from two major suppliers so "WE'RE ALL RELATED" folks. For me these days it comes down to PRICE and SUPPORT because the quality doesn't differ much at the middle to high end. I love the HP ZD7000 I have and the support has been great although I haven't really used it for tech support. Lately HP has been undercutting most resellers so they've been getting my attention. You can pick up a DTR beast for a great price. Do the comparison and don't let prior history scare ya. Carly has taken HP a long way. I've said it before "Even the best will lemon up on ya occassionally".

ZD7000 - P4 3.2 HT - 17 In WSXGA+ Brightview - 2x512 PC3200 - Go57000 128mg - 60 gb 7200 RPM - Now I can give up the weights & the space heater ;-)

screen replacement

How did you get them to do this? I sent mine in for a new screen and was charged over $500. They said there was a finger print on it and that voided my warranty.

Did you open it up and void the warranty? In the specifics of your warranty, do you have free screen replacement? How much was your entire computer (laptop) purchased at and how much is it worth presently? The reason I ask the last two-part question is to get a better idea on what percentage they charged you of your original price.

Well with the exception of my first desktop which was a generic PC all of my desktops and laptops have been Compaqs. I guess I must have been one of the lucky ones because I still have two of the three desktops (gave one to a friend recently) and both laptops. My only gripe is the video card issue with the X1000 series notebooks (as I have one). Anyone familier with the X1000forums will know what I'm talking about. That issue aside everything else has been ok.
