4760 Does not power on

I woke up this morning to a dead 4760 . I noticed that the amber/green light on the laptop that indicates the battery is charging or the AC adapter is plugged in was not on. I checked the AC adapter to see if it was plugged to the wall and it was. But the green light that's on the AC adapter was dim and flickering. When I remove the plug from the laptop but leave it plugged to the wall, the light on the power adapter is bright green. The laptop does not power on battery power neither. When I plug the power adapter to the laptop the green light on the adapter dims and flickers again and the laptop still does not power on. Another note, when I plug the adapter to the back of the laptop, there's a little spark as the plug is inserted . Nonetheless, the laptop is still dead. Any solutions anyone?

Ok, the "spark is bad" and you should never have inserted the "plug" from the adapter into the computer after it has been powered on. It "spells" trouble because of "arching".

Maybe you "fried something". I'd recommend you contact Sager for a resolution and hope that it is still covered under warranty.

I contacted the reseller today and they're sending and RMA for repair. Hope they can work things out.

What do you mean by arching?

That's that electrical "burn" caused by too much impedance (resistance) between two contacts. Kind of like trying to start an electric motor and preventing the "moving parts" from moving - the armature eventually will burn out. Or more simplistic - it's like static electricity between the laptop and the plug that causes a simple "weld/burn" at the point of static contact. The more times this happens the greater the "weld/burn" until eventually no current can pass through this contact point.

power adapter light flickers

Hi there, I am having the same exact problem . I contacted Gateway and there technical support people responded with steps to check my BIOs and other things. I finally got them to understand that I had NO POWER. My warrenty ran out in August 2004 so they wanted me to mail in my laptop for a non warrenty covered repair and $200.00 to start. Cant really do that right now but would like to know if its somthing that I could get a friend to fix given I knew what it was that needed fixing. Anyway, I hope youll share the solution to the power failure and what you had to do to get it back up and runing. Thanks so much.

Hey there, sorry to hear that you're going throught the same thing. I contacted sager and had to return it for a warranty fix. On the invoice the sent back, it states they replaced the mother board. I couldn't tell you what caused it or how to avoid it, sorry. The only thing i can suggest is reading the manual that came with your laptop. I had my laptop plugged in 24/7 and it suggests not to do that. Hope everything works out.
