Mobile speakers...

Hmm... I've been trying to locate mobile (usb-powered) speakers... ones that you could bring w/ you on the road. I haven't found much though, any suggestions???

don't think you will find any for usb. Ever consider headphones? Also, computer speakers can plug into the headphone jack.

I believe the issue might be that the speakers can draw power from the system through the USB port, whereas through the headphone/line-out, they can not.

well they DO exist as i have a pair of portable speakers myself. powered through a usb port and attach to the lcd.

That angle seems pretty nice!

What's that USB Speaker called?

Pocketspeakers by Kensington

Never used them but they look quite portable.
Just to avoid further confusion...these are not the ones in the picture posted above.

I must be missing something. The speakers in the link don't look like they can be configured like the units in the picture.

My link does not refer to the picture above, I simply posted another
USB speaker option.

Yah, the pic was from Davisboy... which brand of speakers are those Davisboy?
they're called "Fortes" on the box but that might just be some random generic name cuz the speakers themselves have no logo wutsoever. they came free w/ my lappy when i got it in taiwan.

How's the sound compared to the regular laptop speakers?
should be great, but what ever happened to investing in a good pair of headphones?

So other people can hear, too.

Sony made a few compact speakers that can be power by battery or AC adapter. They are not great but much better than the internal speakers.

I've tried the Sony $40-$60 portable line, and these Panasonic RP-SPT70's kick their butts up and down the street.

The sound is much, much louder...yet still very clear. They are the best that I was able to find for under $50, that I would consider portable enough to carry with my lappy. If I'm sitting back to watch a movie, I'll just set them in front of the laptop. If I'm using the laptop (in which case I can't set them in front, since that's where my hands/arms would be), then I'll set them behind the laptop with the speakers facing out to the side. The sound is still great.

Forget the portable speakers get headphones! I just got the Grado SR-80's and they look and sound great for $80. Very portable too.

LoL. The issue isn't headphones vs speakers. It's just when say you're watching a movie w/ 1+ ppl you'd want speakers...
Yes, it's good to have speakers not only for other people to be able to listen but also because headphones can damage hearing much more inconspicuously than speakers (because the sound source is so close to the tympanum).
Quote:
the risk of hearing damage from headphones is higher than with loudspeakers, even at comparable volumes, due to the close coupling of the transducers to the ears.

I like these for portability, under 1 pound, can be USB powered or by battery, great sound, comes with a carrying bag so you can throw it in your carrying case.
