cancelling 3790

i think im gonna cancel my order for the 3790. i think id be better off building one for a couple hundred less, and that would look a lot better. i just cant stand the sight of those pegs, and im gonna try to get a thinner notebook like the 1557. plus, we dont even know when this thing will start shipping. being my first notebook, id rather buy something im 100% confident in. i am even considering getting a mid range notebook, and then saving up to build a gaming desktop later on.

i will email them and then call them on monday. does anyone know if there might be issues with this cancellation, or do you think it will just be quick and simple. ahh, buying a notebook so frustrating. i should just build a flat screen gaming pc, but i know eventually i will want some protability

does pctorque have some kind of cancellation policy type deal described somewhere

I also canceled my order for the 3790. I couldn’t stand the looks of the 12 cell battery, looks like a pregnant whale. Also, I am not impressed with the battery life of even the 12 cell, only around 4 hours. The CL56 gets that with a much better case. PC Torque told me there would be no cancellation fee.

thanks twaz, and i know what u mean about the battery. after looking at sleak notebooks like the vaio x505, which is like sub 2lbs, and less then like .6 inch thick, then u look at this beast....

i think i might just build a pc... u start drooling at the type of specs u can have for the same price of a high end gaming notebook..

Indeed, but you can't tote a gaming computer back and forth to and from campus every day.

Maybe they (Sager) can work out the bugs with the battery. The 3790 model would blow the doors off Dell's 8600.

I really don't know how people can make all these critical assumptions before the notebook is even released...... Like the battery life issue. Nobody even knows what the battery life is going to be on the 6 cell. All the information currently out is based on some numbers released by Sager that are out of date and most likely on the low end of the scale. Also, the pegs and the battery thing. Pictures do not do justice at all. I was pretty suprised when I got my CL56, because it looked different and was a lot smaller than the impressions I got from all the pictures. Oh well, I guess that makes the 3790 line shorter for me.

I have never known a company give a "low end" for battery life. Normally they give a longer life then what you will actually see under working conditions.

The laptop isn't even out yet. There are no real world numbers. They could have given DVD watching time for all we know. I'm just not one to base decisions on guesses and assumptions. It's a Centrino notebook, there is no reason why this would have a lower battery life, except the WUXGA screen. And it's won't have THAT much to do with it. Especially since most of us turn down the brightness of the screen when using battery life.

Yeah, did pctorque release some testing results that I missed?
Is there an insider dumping hints?

Four hours of battery life while watching a dvd would rock. That's a single "Lord of the Rings" film on one brick. And a ton of "Family Guy" episodes.

If your order hasn't shipped yet and isn't being painted (as in already started painting) cancelling is no hassle. Just email them with your order number. I've done it.

Eurocom is claiming 4 hours on the 6 cell and 8 hours on the 12 cell:

thanks sonic... that's quite close to what i'm expecting... (more like 3 and 6 probably)

i'm more interested in where tiwaz found that 12 cell only has 4 hrs of battery life
post #16 of 61
8 hours that seems a little high. I was expecting around six with every day normal use on the 12 cell. If there claiming eight then that is one pretty incredible machine. I only know of the thinkpad that has better battery specs.

No laptop is going to be perfect. You will always find some quirk you don't like, but the benefits I think far outweight the the slight bulge the battery makes. You won't be looking at that that often and it has been said that its easy to remove for a 6 cell. The aopen mentioned earlier in this thread, is of shoddier construction and does not have as good of a screen.

That bulge could be considered something else. Like having a notebook that has quite the package.
