Pop-ups from hell...

Ok guys - I've been working hours on end trying to rid my 5690 of pop-up ads from something (spyware or virus I guess) that I acquired within the last couple of days. I've ran Adaware and Spybot a billion times as I am trying to keep spyware off my computer. However I still get a few popups and really need to get rid of them totally.

Any ideas? I've read about SpySweeper - so maybe I should buy that? Could the popups be from a virus? I've run AVG and Avast and it appears to be clean. One funny thing happened though - I had a window pop up out of the blue from AVG's resident shield saying that it detected the Trojan worm virus or something in the "System Information" folders and that I should run AVG to get rid of it. When I ran AVG though, it did not detect it!!

Anyway - the popups I am getting now are mostly the same ones (about 3 different ones pop up from time to time). So if I know the web address that pops up, is there any way to block it? For example, this one likes to pop up every 45 mins or so:

http://adv1.eblocs.com/spyblocs/adv/dmedi_002.html

I run Google toolbar pop up blocker too, but it isn't stopping these.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Spyware

I wouldn't download other types of anti-spyware software.

Stick to the basics and just use Adaware- just update the engine before running it and make sure you check the boxes of what to remove after doing a search (the free version doesn't automatically check the boxes- you have to do it manually)

There are other spyware programs out there which actually INCREASE your spyware. They just use spy-killer names to promote the product.

Good luck on this one- this is my biggest problem as the company I.T. guy and I'm constantly adding sites to the firewall.

Here's another that keeps popping up:

How can I block these sites??

Try using something like Firefox that has a built in pop up blocker. You can specify safe sites that are allowed to show you pop ups (say like Amazon.com) but it's pretty good at blocking everything else.

popups

Go to www.cexx.org. Read the sticky to get the correct downloads. Run the programs listed, copy to the board and they'll tell you what you got and how to get rid of it.

Disable the messager that you found and that may help.
