hey dudez.. im having a problem ....

When i start my laptop it starts the INTEL BOOT AGENT and then it says :

"Media test failed ( somethin like this... ) , check cable
exiting boot agent
Insert System Disk
Press any key to continue."

this happens sometimes when i try booting after shutting down my laptop... after a few tries the laptops starts but sometimes it may not start too.. so i'd have to wait for a day and try and then it would work.... plz note that this happens before the windows xp home loads ..

thanks

Download and make one of these: Ultimate Boot CD. It can test for a variety of problems, including HD problems like yours.

i see.. thanks .AM i supposed to burn the iso to the cd or is there something else im supposed to burn to the boot cd??

Burn the ISO and boot from that CD. I think that gives you a menu that lists several HD testing and stressing progs. You may also want to try the Memory testers.

hey.... yes im under Compusa warranty... i think ill give it to comp usa today... but the prob is i dont have the time.. leaving for middle east next monday and i doubt comp usa will give my laptop back within a week itself... im not sure if i'd wanna try the above prog coz if it totally stresses the hard drive , the hard drive might crash which i dont want to happen

hey... i got my laptop back from Comp Usa and apparently all they've done is change the DVD-RW/CD-rw drive and have reformatted... do u think this is a permanent fix to the problem? it boots fine now...

i thought the problem was with a HDD ( or a connector ) because it woudnt detect a HDD and then it woudnt detect the DVd-rw drive and would hence go to the Network ... so that means the fault lies in both, the dvd-rw drive and the hdd right?

thanks much

Maybe the DVD was causing a problem on the IDE bus and was stopping your HDD from working normally.

hmmm ...all the peepzi asked were saying that they are signs the HDD is failing... although now that u mention it, the problem did start after i got it back from Cmop usa ( had given it coz dvd-rw didnt work.. they replaced the drive ) ..

doh... not sure if i should give it to toshiba for them to check it thoroughly again..
