Sentia no good for games?

Thread Starter
That's very weird... at least to me. Because Alienware makes game laptops, yet thier Sentia line has no good graphics chip for games.

I am in the market for a 13.3 or 12.1" laptop with very good graphics card. When I game, I usually have a CRT or LCD to plug the laptop into. But I only want to keep one system for my work work.

The Sentia is geared towards college students and the like. Their actual gaming notebook is the Area 51.

Well they should have atleast shoved a Radeon 7500 in there. Even that's better than the intel extreme crap.

agreed, I dont like the fact that a company totally based on gaming would come out with a awsome laptop. . . with no gaming.

If I was in college. . . and I had a laptop.. i'd wanna play some games!

I'd save up a couple more bones and buy an Area-51m and use it for college work + free time stuff (gaming, etc.)

the sentia can play games...just not the newest games out there. Im going to play games in college on my sentia. Plus the long battery life is pretty useful.

I think what some of you aren't taking into consideration is that not everyone is into games. Not everyone needs an advanced graphics card. Alienware didn't design the Sentia to play games from the begining. It's really more designed for business/school.

Put in a dedicated gpu u will lose ALOT of battery time

Sentia has a a nice battery time and centrino + intergrated infact work very well together.
It can actually handle more games than you'd think, but definitely not nearly as well as the Area 51-M.

Definatly not as well as a radeon 7500 either .

Exactly the point... And that is why there is the Sentia!

BS...

Even notebooks with 128mb 9700s can get up to 4+ hours of battery life. I can attest to this from first hand experience. The addition of a dedicated gpu does not necessarily mean a great decrease in battery life.
It would infact take little/no life away if they went with a lower end, like say a, 64MB Radeon 7500.
how much batt life does the sentia have?

there "are" centrino notebooks out there with dedicated gpus (9700 64mb/128mb) that get upwards of 5 hours (asus m6n)

my notebook gets 4.5 hours

having a dedicated gpu over an integrated intel gpu doesnt necessarily mean less batt time.
mine is the 14.1 screen and it gets MAX 4 hours.. not bad

If AW were able to add a GPU to the new Sentia that would open the doors for people who want a portable gaming laptop (12.1" TFT). I for one would definitely get one if it had a Radeon 9600 Pro.

I'm not sure if it's even possible for a GPU to be placed on such a small MB. Closest thing I've seen is the V505 from Sony which had a Radeon 7500 32MB with a 12.1" TFT.

The Sony S series comes with a 9700... and it is only a little bigger than the Sentia, with a 13.3 inch widescreen.

Well, congratulations on what appears to be a nice machine....but I'd love to hear if you *really* get 10 hrs of battery life, given the amount of time games have to access the HDD.

Please keep us updated....

Nobody vendor posts battery life time, of video game playing...

That battery life time is most likely... Screen brightness somewhat low... no wifi, no optical drive accessing (or minimal), and probably no intensive apps... just word processing. From experience... I can say... that usualy the battery rundown time posted by vendors CAN be achieved... but using settings like the ones above.
