Dude, I just got delled...

It would have been really great to have a laptop for some upcoming projects starting next week. A new Sager not out by then. I was looking for a widescreen LCD.

The Dell Inspiron 8500 would fit my needs AND it could take 2 gig of ram. Well, you guys probably all know the delivery times; half of Dell’s options come with the little note "this option might delay your shipping time".

Then in some kind of a desperate attempt I thought I would be really smart (stupid me!) and order a D800 from the small business section. They don’t give estimated shipping times, so I figured that I would get one within a few days. Configured a nice D800, 1.6 GHz Pentium M, WUXGA15.4”, 60gig HD, 512mb, 64MB NVIDIA. Awesome!

(On a side note: Never understood why you can’t write the complete 'f' word. To say 'f-you' on TV or radio seems to be OK, although it means the same. Pathetic. 'to get screwed' is OK, right? But here is the solution: "to dell you" or "to get delled"

A few minutes after I submitted the order it got delled by Dell. Their estimated delivery time including 3-5 d free shipping was almost ONE month. So much for my delusional dream of getting a laptop next week. I never cancelled an order that fast before… I don't understand how they manage to sell a single laptop with delivery times like that. Once you finally receive the laptop it's stone age material....

Now, I’m holding out for the new Sager , unless I jump on an insane deal at CompUSA or Bestbuy on Memorial Day weekend and settle for less…

I got too excited when I noticed a new message in the News, Releases etc forum, but got kind of disappointed…

Worth the wait...?

Just a wild guess because you don't have any clue what's in the pipeline or do you guys know the specs but are bound by a NDA?

Sign me up for anything that has a widescreen LCD and up to 2 Gig of ram...

What programs will you be running that will need 2 gb ram instead of 1? Just curious...

Seriously, I would need the laptop mainly for photoshop. therefore my quest for a widescreen LCD and tons of memory.

When I was into hardcore gaming - somewhere in the stoneage - the specs of my machine were: 133 MHz, 8 MB Video RAM, 32 MB RAM and 850 MB HD. That was for running DOOM. Quake never managed to create the hype like DOOM did and I lost the interest. Played C&C a for a short while afterwards.

Probably I'll check out one of the games that are around today to see what kind of progress the graphics have made. Any recommendations...?

"Any recommendations for games?" " See if there's any progress?'

No offense to you but......You're working to hard I think!
Try Return to Castle Wolfenstien or Medal of Honor if you want to see what kind of advances in graphics there are. OR one of my favorites....SUPERBIKE 2001, an old game but man do they have the code right on that game!

There is something very unique about dell and because of this, they have been able to remain profitable all these years. That thing is the fact that dell has one of the most streamlined business processes that i have ever seen. By not having many warehouses, storage costs are cut as well as the problem of having lots of old hardware sitting around. This strategy, although extremely effective in the business enviroment also can wreak havoc on ship times since most of the newer parts for their computers are in transit when orders are placed. For this reason, dell orders really do take an extremely long time to complete.
